Visiting Moline in April

Hi ladies!

I'm planning a trip to the Quad city area in April and thought I'd come here for some ideas.  My husband is a huge John Deere fanatic and is turning 30 in April.  He doesn't want a big party, so I figured I'd plan this trip for him as a surprise.

I made reservations at the Stoney Creek Inn and bought tickets to a River Bandits game.  And that's it so far.  I know we'll want to check out all the JD sites, but didn't know if anyone here could give me a few other ideas about stuff to do. Do I need to make reservations at any of the JD sites?  I'm up for any ideas.  I've never planned a vacation for the two of us all by myself. I'm so worried that I am going to slip up and tell him something!

Thanks!

Re: Visiting Moline in April

  • The Pavillion is great, fee and just come anytime they are open... I'm sure that is on your list already. Out in Walcott, IA is the World's Largest Truck Stop (about 20 minutes west of Moline on I-80). Quite a sight to see. Figge Art Museum in downtown Davenport. If you like gambling--- the QC has lots of it! I enjoy eating at the Japanese restaurant in the Southpark Mall parking lot. Has enough americanized food that I would enjoy :)

If you are into golf, maybe peek at TPC. Won't be open yet (May 1 I believe).

Let's us know if you need any more input! Have a great trip!
  • I'm glad there is someone else who likes the truck stop. DH worked there over college breaks. It has been interesting to see the place grow over the years. Plus there seems to always be someone we know there (family, old friend, etc... *sigh* ...life when family lives in that part of Scott County!)

Depending on the weather... there is also Maquokta (spelling??) Caves (maybe 30-40 minutes north of Davenport). Again, free and so beautiful!!
  • Thinking some more... but Dubuque has an indoor water park that is brand new(an hour north of the QC). And if you liked the movie "Field of Dreams"... Dyersville (where it was filmed) is only 1/2 hour west of Dubuque. (Just don't go over 25 anywhere in the vicinity of the town... trust me... ifyaknowwhatimean.)
  • Thanks for all the info Hitched!  We will have to check out the truck stop!  We've been to Dyerville on another trip a few years back.  That is also where ERTL headquarters is and ERTL makes toy tractors, so the fact that we were near Dyersville, we had to stop.  It is a cute town.  I contacted the Quad City Vistors Bureau and they sent me tons of information also.
