Favorite restuarants on West side of Madison & Middleton?

Hi all,
DH and I just bought a house in Wexford Village and are moving up from Indianapolis in May. What restaurants are good in that area?? We've eaten at Roman Candle in Middleton, and the Italian Steakhouse in Greenway station, and the PF Changs (yum! I'm excited to live so close to one soon!). Is anyone familiar with the Indian place in the strip mall (w/ the library) on the corner of Old Sauk & High Point?
What are the other places around there that are good???

Re: Favorite restuarants on West side of Madison & Middleton?

  • Welcome!  I live in Wexford Village too.  We went to the Indian restaurant a few weeks ago and it was good.  We also have several friends from India who like it as well. There is a good wine bar/appetizer restaurant on Junction road (just down the street).  At Greenway, there is an Irish pub, Cheeseburgers in Paradise, Cosi, TGIF, and lots more not too far away.  Otherwise, there is the typical chiplotle, chins, panera, subs for quick food. I think you will really like the location.  It is close to the beltline and not too far from downtown.  The paths in Wexford Village are also nice to walk.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
  • I'm a huge fan of Granite City (in the West Towne Mall parking lot).  I can't seem to get enough of that place lately.  It's so good!!
  • my favorite restaurant ANYWHERE is Lousianne's in Middleton. Yum!

Is the Indian place called Maharaja? That is my fav Indian place. So good.

  • I second Louisianne's in Middleton.  It's easily one of the top 5 non-chain restaurants in the madison area.  I also like Eno Vino (tapas), Hubbard Ave Diner (comfort food), Three Sisters (amazing breakfast), and Vin Santo (great Italian).
  • My suggestions above were just for the West side.  I have tons more suggestions for downtown, as that is the location for most of the great places:

    Breakfast suggestion:

    Marigold's
www.marigoldkitchen.com My Dad would eat breakfast here every day if he couldClosed on Sundays.

    Lunch suggestions:

    Marigold's
    Old Fashioned www.theoldfashioned.com
Casbah (Mediterranean) 119 E Main St
    Dotty's Dumplings Dowry (burgers)
    www.dottydumplingsdowry.com
    Great Dane (pub food) www.greatdanepub.com
    Kabul (Afghanistan) 541 State St
Lao Laan Xang (Laotian) 1146 Williamson St
    Hong Kong Caf? (Chinese)
    www.hkcafemadison.com
    Chautara (Nepalese) 334 State St
    Paisan's (cheap and good Italian)
    www.paisansrestaurant.biz
Restaurant Muramoto (Asian fusion, probably better for dinner) 106 King St.

Dinner suggestions = all listed for lunch (except Marigold's is not open for dinner) and the following:

Restaurant Magnus (my fav Madison restaurant)
    www.restaurantmagnus.com
    Tornado www.tornadosteakhouse.com
  • Sorry about the screwy formating.  I'm computer illiterate and that is a list I cut & paste whenever friends are coming into town and want restaurant suggestions.
  • thank you!

Madcity -  I've had the chance to eat at many of those: Marigold's, Magnus, and Old Fashioned. I've been impressed w/ the restaurant scene in Madison! It seems as good as,  or even better than Indianapolis, which is three times the size!

  • There is a Great Dane right near the Hilldale Mall which would be a little closer than the downtown location. That place is sort of my "go to" place for a good, casual meal. If you like Thai food, Sa-Bai Thong on University is really, really good. I need to go out to eat more often. :) In late summer, there is an event called Taste of Madison on the Capitol Square. A ton of local restaurants are represented there, and it's a good way to get a list of places you want to check out in person later.
  • Eno Vino...yum for wine and tapas style food.
