Milwaukee hotel/restaurant recs

Hi!  I am looking for some good recommendations for hotels/restaurants  in Milwaukee.  My DH and I will be taking the ferry from Michigan for a long weekend in May.  Any recommendations?  I have checked trip advisor-I just want local perspecives.  We want to stay downtown to go to the museum, brewery tours.  Thanks!!!

Re: Milwaukee hotel/restaurant recs

  • I guess it depends on how much you'd like to spend. My husband and I stayed at the Pfister for a wedding in February and it was lovely. Hotel Metro is supposed to be AMAZING. Intercontinental is supposed ot be nice as well.

I'd stay away from the Hilton.

As for restaurants..again, it depends how much you want to spend. Palms has the BEST grilled cheese on their lunch menu. Sounds silly, but really, its amazing. Capital Grille is awesome for dinner, provided that you're a steak lover. Lots of other great recs too.

For a brewery tour, make sure you do Lakefront. Its supposed to be the best, plus they have great fish fry for dinner. Sprecher is good too, then you can also taste soda if one of you isn't a big beer drinker.

  • I have stayed at the Hotel Metro and really liked it.  Recently my husband and I stayed at the Ambassador and just loved it.  It's an older art deco hotel that has been totally renovated.  It's a bit farther up Wisconsin Avenue than would be considered downtown but they do have a shuttle that will take you just about anywhere.  Also, the room service flatbread pizza was to die for. Hotel Metro and the Pfister are great and close to everything.  The restaurant in the Metro is great as is almost every place around there.  Close by is Elsa's, Mason Street Grille, Bacchus and a few places in the Third Ward.  If you want romantic and great food try the Lake Park Bistro.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then success with condoms! Who would ever have guessed.
