Pixy

I was going to try making some frames like the ones you have in Owen's room. Where did you get the frames? Did you just buy black ones or did you paint them? Also, did you have to get special "glass paint" to paint the letters?

Re: Pixy

  • Yes, I just bought the cheap-o frames at Walmart, I think they were a couple bucks a piece on a fixture in the middle of the main aisle near the frames.  Usually all Walmarts are setup the same.

YES, you do want to use glass paint!

    ******INSTRUCTIONS******

    Supplies:

One frame for each letter (I prefer a different size per letter)

    Glass Paint

A variety of different sized paint brushes

Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks

    Sharpie

    Instructions:

    Prepping Frames

Take the backing out from frame (throw away, or you can buy backless frames)

Hot glue the glass inside the frame (hot glue it on the inside of the frame, obviously). Let cool.

    Creating Letters for Frames

Using MS Word type letter in which ever font and font size desired (again, I like to use a different font per letter). You may have to have it print on multiple sheets depending on what size letter you need for the frame.

Print it up (tape together if necessary)

Again, do one letter per frame

    Putting it all together

Clean the picture frame glass and allow to fully dry

Trace the individual letters onto the glass (preferably on the inside, some letters you'll have to trace on the outside otherwise they'll be backwards). If that happens alcohol will take the sharpie lines off.

Here comes the time consuming part -

Paint those letters in with the black (GLASS) paint. It will take multiple layers of the paint before it's completely blacked out.

    You're done!
