Mommies w/ dogs

What did you do with your pooch when you went to the hospital?  We are thinking of boarding Cooper since we won't know how long we'll be in the hospital and don't want to inconvenience our neighbors or family.  We don't have close family in the area, so that would make it tough, too, and I would think most of the family that does come into town would rather be at the hospital instead of taking care of Cooper.  Anyway, just wondering how you made that work and if you had any recommendations for overnight boarding in Madison/Fitchburg.  Thanks!

Re: Mommies w/ dogs

  • We use camp k9 on the east side and my brother inlaw uses Aunt B's but that's in DeForest.

  • Sorry I can't really help. Cosmo stayed at the lake with grandma while I was in the hospital for two weeks. Then when ds was born, she just brought him home and we asked the neighbor to let him out.
  • Another option would be SpaWoof.  It's more downtown which may be easier (since the hospitals are there also).  Do you know where the old Humane Society was?  That's where this place is.  We've used them a couple times and liked them.  We just recently used them for our three dogs on very short notice (funeral) with no issues.  One word of advice, if you don't already, keep Cooper utd on bordatella.  That will be true for any boarding place.
  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I had to go to our vet today to pick up some meds and found out that they do boarding.  Nice and close to our house.  The only prob (with any place) is if I go into labor when they are closed.

  • I don't know if you would be interested in a pet sitter, but I work with someone who pet sits, she is a CVT.  If you are interested, you can email me at jamieatbarkhowyoulikedotcom and I will give you here name, number, anything else you want to know.
  • Our dogs are used to being kenneled during the day so they just stayed home. My parents stopped at the house once to let them out and then DH went over a few times.

  • My water broke at 3am 4 weeks early.  We called my mom and she took him out a few times during the day. Easiest and cheapest for us.

  • We also used Camp K9 when our son was born. Our dogs love that place :) I would call them and ask if there is any way they could help you as you really don't know when you'd be bringing them in unless you got a date to be induced. I was "lucky" and had to be induced so we knew the exact day to book.
