Free Speaker this Saturday- Very Cool

Hey Ladies I wanted to let you know about this awesome speaker I have been working to bring to Portland. Spread the word- he is coming (in contrast to the WW article which stated he was not ) John Prendergast, formerly of the International Crisis Group and Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, is intimately knowledgeable on African affairs and has traveled to the camps with the likes of Don Cheadle (of Hotel Rwanda) Elie Wiesel, and prominent politicians. He has testified before Congress and travels extensively in to educate others about the plight of those in Darfur. He can be seen most recently in the new HBO documentary "Sand and Sorrow" as well as being featured on 60 Minutes. His recent book, co-authored by Don Cheadle, called "Not on Our Watch" is a blueprint for anti genocide activism. John Prendergast is currently the co-chair of ENOUGH (www.enoughproject.org). The goal of ENOUGH is to advocate for the abolishment of genocide and mass atrocities. The goal in bringing John to Oregon is to help us advocate for and educate about Darfur and an end to genocide in a more cohesive and comprehensive way. The collective effort to bring John Prendergast here has already garnered many partners including: the Portland Coalition for Genocide Awareness; Amnesty International; Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon; Oregon State University; American Jewish Committee, Oregon; Congregation Beth Israel; the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center; the STAND chapter at OSU; and Portland First United Methodist Church. The event will be free of charge for the community, with the opportunity to donate. The event will be held at the Portland First United Methodist Church, 1838 SW Jefferson St, Portland at 8 pm. The use of public transportation to the event is strongly encouraged. Portland, OR 97201
