He was AMAZING. He is the real deal. I was so impressed with his thoughtfulness and intelligence. He is exactly what this country needs right now.
I drove all the way from Portland to Eugene and stood outside in line from 2 until around 7 (when they let us in the arena). Hanging out in line with excited people was fun, ppl were passing out doughnuts, selling t-shirts with Obama's face on them and asking for signatures for petitions. It was a lively group. I chatted with some interesting professors.
We got inside, nine thousand ppl took every seat - and waited some more. There were some introductionary speeches and then at 9:15, Obama came in! Everyone stood up and cheered. It was thrilling.
He spoke about why he decided to run now instead of waiting. He talked about offering a tuition break to students for college who agree to do community service after graduation. Everyone went crazy when he addressed protecting the environment.
I have occasionally doubted his experience, but seeing him talk convinced me that he will be an excellent president. He knows what needs to be done and he can do it.
After his hour-long speech I had to drive all the way back to Portland, but I was so pumped up, it wasn't bad.
Go Obama!
