Re: Does anyone have any info on Forest Grove?

  • I don't know much about Forest Grove but that it's not that big. Weather - Summers are the best in Oregon. Winter lasts from about October thru June (July 5 is when things get warm typically). We get a touch of snow but not a lot unless you're in the hills or mountains. All the Californians moving up here pretty much guarantee that no one can drive in the little we get. Plus, it tends to be covered with rain so it becomes super slick. Rain, we get quite a bit but not as much as people think. It appears rainier than it is because we have a constant mist / grey from October through June. Some people can handle it; some can't. If you need lots of sun, it could be difficult if you can't take frequent trips out of town.
  • Newbie did a good job summarizing the weather. I just want to add that we get about the same amount of rain as many mid-west cities. The difference is that we get a majority of that rain in the six months between November and April and other places have it more spread out in the year. May-October is usually mild and warm and gets up in the 80s pretty regularly July -September
  • I really don't know Forest Grove well, but I just wanted to add that it is a cute city. Very small... I drove through the old downtown recently and thought it looked quaint. Pacific University is in Forest Grove, so I imagine parts of the city have a college feel.

  • I think LisiLynn lives in Forest Grove, she might be able to tell you more about it. I've only drove through a couple of times. It's pretty small. The McMenamins Grand Lodge is great for dinner and a cheap movie. Lots of people get married there so it can get crowded in summer with wedding parties.

It's probably about 30-45 minutes from Portland, longer if the traffic is bad. I'd rather live closer to Portland as there are more things to do there, but it depends on what your preference is.
  • Hi there, sorry I'm checking in late. I do live in Forest Grove. It is a great little town. I like living here. People are very nice, there are quite a few old families and lots and lots of nurseries and farms. Pacific University is located here so it is a college town but unfortunately has yet to support some great college town type pubs or anything. We have a few that are trying and new businesses are popping up monthly. The town is sure to absolutely boom in a few years. There are tons of residents and little business so theres lots of opportunity for growth and new things. There are quite a few new housing developments coming in and they are all $400k+ houses. Most people here commute to Hillsboro or Portland for work, eating out, shopping etc. Forest Grove pretty much rolls up the sidewalks by 8pm. If you want a lot of choices for things to do and like the city, I'd live closer in to Portland, but if you're into a rural town Forest Grove is one of the absolute best!
