Recommend your oil furnace/tank company!

Just bought a house in SE with an oil tank and furance.  I don't know the first thing about these and how to fill them.  The inspector said something about "auto fill" companies that take care of filling it for you every few months.  Is that something you'd recommend?  What company?  And how much does a typical drafty old Portland home cost to heat?

Re: Recommend your oil furnace/tank company!

  • My company uses First Call Heating- 503-231-3311.

Our homes are vacant so we don't use the autofill feature, however, if I was living in one I would consider it.  On a regular basis, our tanks run dry, then it takes a day or two to get the tank filled, then we have to have a furnace repair person reset the system to get the heat up and running again.  It seems much easier to just have it filled regularly.

In most cases, the tank access is outside, so the oil folks don't have to come inside and you don't have to be home.  We pay around $300 for 100 gallons.
  • We don't have oil, but I agree with PP about FirstCall.  They installed our heat pump recently and they are awesome!
