VENT: Looking for a rental house SUCKS!

Ugh! We've been looking for almost 4 weeks and it SUCKS. What the heck? I'm so tired of "NO PETS." They aren't pets folks- They are family!

Re: VENT: Looking for a rental house SUCKS!

  • Portland Rental Service is pet friendly...I used to rent from them.  I don't reccomend them AT ALL, their office people were b*tches, but they did allow my pit bull in their town house, and rent was cheap.

  • It's SO sad that pitbulls are getting such a bad wrap right now. They are super great dogs! A lady I use to work with has THREE of them and LOVES them. They are great dogs and amazing with her 6 year old granddaughter but she can't find a new rental place under $900 for her and her 3 doggies. It's really sad.!
  • *Adds to vent*

It took FOREVER for us to find a place that would take Leo. Apparently, in Oregon, GSD's are also labeled as violent aggressive monsters with an intrinsic appetite for baby flesh. That couldn't be further from the truth. They are loving dogs who protect thier families-especially children. They will 'herd' them away from danger. Our cat gets so mad bc Leo won't let him near the stove.

Anyway, when we did move in, they made us attach a rider to our renters policy covering bite litigation and so on. Which is fine if they required that of everyone, but they only ask that of the 'dangerous' breeds.

    So...I feel your pain.

  • www.gridpropertymanagement.com  rents houses and allows pets.  good luck!
  • Sheesh- and we only have a mini doxie. I can't imagine having a larger dog that has a label attached to the breed.  The places we have found and looked at that were "pet friendly" were in super creepy neoghborhoods and were gnarly living arrangements. ewww!
  • I would also look on craigslist, there are quite a few pet friendly houses on there...

  • CL is where I am looking the most. I'm finding lots of houses. We're also running into the problem of not being able to vacate this place until  next month so that makes this extra fun...
  • We convinced Alpine Property Management to take our dogs (50 and 75lbs).  We just brought them to the showing of the condo and when we said we were ready to pay the application and deposit on the spot, they got the owners to approve them.  You have to stay on them about repairs, but we didn't have any major issues with them.

FYI -- Hunt Club Apartments has the most lenient pet policies I've seen ... but I know you might be looking for a house only.
