dress boutiques in chicago?

Hello :) I'm planning a trip to Chicago in a few weeks. Do any of you know of any shops where I could find a dress for a black tie event? I've already looked at nordstrom's/macy's/etc. and haven't found anything. We're staying on the magnificent mile, so if you know of any boutiques in that area, I'd love to hear your recommendations. Thanks so much!

Re: dress boutiques in chicago?

  • Hi there
What's your budget like? There are some high end designer stores on Michigan and Oak street in Downtown.  Whereabouts will you be staying in Chicago?
  • I'd like to shoot for $350 or under. This is the price range I've encountered at most of the department stores, but unfortunately most of their dresses were either matronly or bridesmaid-y. I'm hoping for something a little more fashion-forward, but I can't afford to go too upscale. (In other words, I'm not expecting Dior on my BCBG budget). :)  Our hotel is on Illinois between Michigan Ave and Rush. Know of anything in the area?
  • It might be worth your time to check out Macys and Nordstroms anyway.  The merchandise is different from store to store.  The Macys on Michigan has totally different things than the one on State, and they're only 9 blocks apart.

There is a Bloomingdales on Michigan as well.  Most of the shops in the area you are staying in are going to be out of your price range unless thay are a big-box store.

You might also try Yelp.com.  It usually has a good list of local businesses and reviews.

  • There are some really cute boutique-ey stores on Armitage and on the Southport corridor.

Try Armitage between Sheffield and Halsted, or Southport between Belmont and, say, Addison.
