Re: XP: Favorite Chicago Restaurants

  • Well it's not in Chicago but it's pretty close.  It's in Oak Park and it's called La Bella.  It is hands down the best Italian food outside of Italy.  The price is very reasonable around $12 for an entree.

  • A few of my favorites:

Green Zebra - vegetarian gourmet; about $35 - 50/person; it's the most amazing vegetarian food I've ever eaten.

Bite - eclectic american cuisine; about $10-15/person; great seasonal menu and they always have different daily specials.  The food is always good and the atmosphere is very relaxed.  They also have great brunch until 2pm everyday.

Orange - brunch; $10-15/person; very interesting twist on brunch.

Irazu - Costa Rican; about $10/person; really, really good food for a great price.  Don't miss the oatmeal shakes, palmito salad, and sweet plantains.
  • Sincing moving out of Chicago I haven't had the opportunity to try the new places but some of my faves in the city are

Cafe Iberico : Spanish Tapas, Get there early  on weekends, they don't accept reservations. prices are reasonable and Sangria is AWESOME!

Francesca's on Taylor Street in Little Italy:  A tad pricey but the food and dessert is really good

that's all I can think of right now...

  • I love Calo - Italian, hole in the wall type place, delicious bread, soup, salad, and gnocchi pasta! Moderate price, I think it's around Ashland and Clark.

Geja's Cafe is popular - Fondue, higher priced ($29-45) but you get app, salad, main course, & desert. So fun to cook and just enjoy- you will leave stuffed, and I swear, they have some of the most delicious food I have ever had. Romantic too! I believe it's on Armitage.

  • It's *technically* not Chicago, but it's close enough. Chi Tung in Evergreen Park has amazing Asian food.
