Hey! I just saw your post about getting a dog from a Rescue.  I'm looking to get a dog for my parents from a Rescue but don't know where to start in the area. They are from Schaumburg as well. Any tips? Which Rescue are you getting your dog from?

P.S. I LUV ur flowers! I wish I knew your florist for my wedding!

Re: **Goin2theChapel2**

  • Not goin', but I and relentlesslylyn volunteer for the Almost Home Foundation, based in Elk Grove Village. KristiKess has one of their dogs as a foster as well.

AHF has adoption shows every saturday at several Petsmarts in the area. There, you can meet the dogs, and see how they interact. If you decide to bring one home, there is a two week trial period for puppies and adult dogs to get used to you and your home. If after a home inspection they determine you're a great fit, you're set!

Check out their website to see the animals and more adoption info. They normally post which dogs will be at which store around Thursday or Friday. Page one of us if you need more info. Good luck!

  • I think goin found her rescue through petfinder.com. That's how we found our dog. It's just a search engine to find a dog in the size/breed you want, and then it gives you the contact information for the rescue society or organization that actually has the animal up for adoption. We got Lucy through Rover Rescue, based in Aurora.
  • It was petfinder.  There are a lot of shelters around here, like the above posts said.  PAWS is also good in the city.  You can do a serch on shelters in Illinois and there are tons!
  • Thanks everyone for your help! Wish me luck!!!:)
  • Oop- sorry. We got our dog through wright way rescue. They seem to have a lot of puppies as well as adult dogs, if that is what you think they'd be looking for. We had to go to a Petco in Vernon Hills for Izzy.
