Pimp your Videocamera

We are looking to get one- possibly HD and with a hard-drive, but really no idea.  So pimp out your videocamera if you like it.  :)

Re: Pimp your Videocamera

  • DH is in the film business and for a consumer recommends a videocamera with tape. You can get one that shoots miniDV that is HD, so that's not an issue. If you use one with a hard drive, in order to preserve what you shoot, you have to bring it to DVD eventually. If you shoot on tape, you will always have it on the tapes as a back up. If your computer crashes or something else happens, you would still have the original footage. Ok... that was basically DH talking and me trying to really fast type what he was saying and still make sense. :) If you want to give me more info on what you are looking for, DH can definitely point you in the right direction.
  • What are you getting the videocamera for specificially? You may want to invest in a good one for your needs, and then ask for one like I got last year as your "purse model". I got an iFlip for my birthday last year and I thought "what am I going to do with this? I wanted a real video camera." Well, now that I have both, I realize that I throw my iFlip in my purse everyday and shoot more precious moments on that little guy than I do with my 'spensive videocamera.

Yes, you have to upload the footage to your computer, but I keep all of my backed up on jump drives. It is SUPER easy to transfer the footage to iMovie and I've spliced together video/photo movies too. I am not sure how much the iFlip cost (I think $200, maybe less). But, I wanted to recommend it to you as I was someone who didn't want anything to do with this sort of camera to begin with and absolutely LOVE it now.

Between impromptu conversations with my Grandma about our family history, shots of my 1 year old great nephew, funny car trips with DH, the cats do something hilarious or my best friend's kids - I've got the iFlip close by!
