Meet My New Foster Puppy!

Meet Chops!  He is a golden retriever mix puppy and is about 3 months old.  He was rescued yesterday from a high kill shelter in Southern Illinois (can you believe this cutie pie was going to be put to sleep?!).

Chops is a great puppy.  He is very playful; he has been trying to play (nicely) with my cats (although they're not entirely happy about this).  I think Chops might be mostly house trained since he seems to cry when he wants to go out.  Although, since he is a puppy, he will need to be let out every 4 hours or so during the day, but seems to make it most of the night (yay!).

I'll post more info on him later in the week, including where you can meet him on Saturday if you're interested in adopting him!

Chops is part of the Almost Home Foundation :)

Re: Meet My New Foster Puppy!

  • cutest.puppy.EVER!
  • I am sure you have given out detail before but how does the adoption process work?  Thanks!
  • The adoption process is pretty easy.  You come meet the dog you're interested in at the adoption show on Saturdays (although if you're interested in Chops and live near Schaumburg you can meet him sooner).  If you decide you like the dog and they're a good fit for your family, you fill out an adoption application.  After your application is approved (usually done on the spot) if you are chosen to adopt the dog (sometimes there are multiple applications on one dog) you will need to pay the adoption fee ($250 for dogs under 6 mos, $175 for dogs over 6 mos).  The adoption fee includes seeing the vet and their shots, a microchip, and spay/neuter.  Then someone (usually the foster family) will do a home check.  This is basically to make sure you were truthful on your application and also to help spot any hidden dangers you may not have noticed.  Then there is a 2 week trial period where you have the dog.  If at the end of the two weeks you decide the dog isn't a good match, you return it to us and you get your money back (and the dog returns to its foster home).  Anywho - it's pretty simple process that I somehow turned into a novel.

  • I will talk to DH tonight I know he really wants to get a dog soon.  Thank so much!
  • Oh my gosh!!! You know what, I was just going to page you ask about your new foster!

AND, the weirdest part is, I had a dream last night that you got a golden retreiver puppy. WEIRD.

3 months is still a little young to make it long periods of time before needing a bathroom trip, but because he's a bigger doggie he should be fine most of the night. If he's still around next week- playtime it is- soooo cute- Izzy would loooovvveee him.

  • cnthrdly - No.Freaking.Way.  That is toooo weird that you dreamt I got a golden retriever puppy!

I don't think we'll be able to do a play date next week - I can't imagine this little dude not getting adopted on Saturday (knock on wood)!  Maybe we could set up our DH's on a playdate tomorrow night.  You'll be out of town and I'll be at my waterpolo class...
  • So cute!  Goldens are the best!
  • choniote - if you were closer I was going to try to set up a play date with you (especially since I know Sam is keeping you ridiculously busy)!
  • Oh, that would have been fun :(  I think Sam would love some puppy friends!
  • I can't look away...this guy is so, so cute!
  • I would love to have a play date with our dogs too... weekends are better, since I work during the day... man he's a cutie... he'd definitely be scooped up in Bloomingdale!

  • Too cute!!!!!  I have a rescued puppy too (PIB)!!
  • So cute.  Congrats!
