Selling Wine

I live in mid-west Illinois and a year ago started making my own wine. It is very good and I would like to try selling to make some extra money, but what do I need to do to have this be legal. I looked at illinois licenses for this kind of thing and came up with nothing. I don't have a business and I make the wine in my house. Help Please

Re: Selling Wine

  • I would think at the very least you would need a liquor license.  But would also need a business license and probably would have to something that allows you to make alcohol.  Plus health inspections and insurance.  You should check with your town, county and state for licensing and codes.  That way you know how much you will need to sell to be profitable.  Maybe the next place you should look for information is your local police station and city hall.  Also why don't you try and talk to a local liquor store or microbrewery.  And the ATF should have information for you as well.
