moving to great neck...

Hi nesties,

DH and I are moving from Lake Grove to Great Neck, and since I have relied on the great advice of knotties and nesties in the past, I thought I would see if anybody had any suggestions of helpful hints of the area.

Anybody know of a (reasonably priced) hair salon in the area?  I'm sure Great Neck itself is expensive, but maybe nearby Little Neck?  I have curly hair, which I highlight a few times a year.

Any other tips on places to eat, things to do, etc. would be great.  Thanks!

Jen

Re: moving to great neck...

  • I work in Great Neck so I know of a few restaurants.  You're going to have trouble finding a cheap salon in that area though.  Anyway, restaurants...  There's a Panchos (Mexican food), Cafe Rustica (Italian), Gino's (pizza), Deli on the Green, Bovanda (not sure if I spelled that right)...  All these places are either on Middle Neck Road or right off it in the downtown section.
  • Hi Jen,

I've lived in GN just about all my life... I've gotten my hair done at NY Hair on the corner of Middle Neck Road and Great Neck Road going as far back as I can remember.  I don't think they are overpriced - but that might be because I don't have much experience with anyone else.  What I can tell you is that they do an amazing job!  I've got to them after my mom destroyed me with platinum blonde highlights - thank goodness for that!

You won't have trouble finding a place to eat - all the pp's suggestions are great, and new places are popping up all the time.  I've got to suggest Bagel Hut as the best bagels ever!  :o)  And there is a place that just opened called Elaine's that was really delish - their sushi is very fresh.

Let me know if you have any other GN questions - I'd be happy to help out!

    -Rachel
