Hi everyone

Hi everyone! Allow me to introduce myself. My husband, 11 month old son and I just moved to Beaverton from out of state. We are sad to have left behind all of our family and friends. Due to the economy and overstaffing where we lived my husband was offered a transfer to Portland or be laid off. We found out about the transfer 3 weeks ago, and moved up here last week. We don?t know anyone up here, and aren?t familiar with the area. I was hoping to get to know some of you ladies and am hopeful to get some information about the area.

  • Welcome to Portland! Where did you move from? I think this weekend started the "i'm staying in the Portland-forever-weather" for DH & I. We moved here last May, so our year is coming up. This board if pretty slow, pop into the knot board as well.

Daisygirl- your dog is so cute!

  • Daisygirl, your dog is adorable, we have a black mask female boxer, she's 4.  Aren't they the most interesting dogs? They have such personality, I love my boxer!

We moved from California, we lived in the east bay area, I had lived in the same city my entire life, and my parents never even travelled out of state when I was a kid.  So this move is a bit of an adventure for me.  My husband and I have talked about moving out of California for years, the area where we grew up is really nice and beautiful, but it's just not an affordable place to live and raise a family, at least not on an "average" income.  So though we weren't given much of a choice in our move, we had to move for DH work, it was probably the best thing that could've happened (except for being away from family/friends).  It's so beautiul here.  I love the rain, and the last couple of sunny days have been so gorgeous too!

  • Welcome to Oregon...I am a native Oregonian.  Feel free to ask questions.  If you search the boards and the Travel board there is a nestie who has created  a couple Portland/Oregon related blogs that have tons of great info.  Sorry I don't have them handy.

I currently live in Beaverton and work in Downtown Portland.

  • Thanks Kristinp36 those websites have a ton of info. I'm excited to look over those, and I'm sure my husband will be too, he's very excited to explore the area that we will eventually be calling home.

  • Hi and welcome to Portland!

I've been in PDX for about 5 years and love it! You sure lucked out by coming with weather as beautiful as it has been! I hope you're getting settled and that you are enjoying your first few weeks here.

I live in SW Portland. I'm not a huge poster, but I'd love to help with any information if I am able.

    Your little Jake is adorable!

  • I know it is hard to move away from family but I have lived in the Portland/Vancouver area all my life and love it. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

We just recently moved out of Beaverton and over to Vancouver. Only a 30 minute difference depending on traffic but I work in Downtown Portland. I miss Beaverton a ton but I we moved to be closer to family. What part of Beaverton do you live in. I lived in Murray Hill. There are a lot of neat places there.
