Columbia are home builders

Hi there, Baltimore Knottie interested in some SC info!

Can anyone recommend a reputable home builder in the Columbia metro area?

Also any nice newer communities in the area?

Thanks!

Re: Columbia are home builders

  • I work in real estate her in downtown Columbia, and I will give you my honest opinion.

Stay away from Beazer (which is leaving the area), some mungo homes....mostly the newer one's. Mungo has gone down completely.

Schumaker homes is pretty reputable and popular, and Rymarc/Ryland homes have really started branching out, and are of good quality.

Depending on the type of home, I can recommend some private builders.

Just page me on here on on the D&R board.

  • I second pp except that Mungo has always been below par.  Not only should you stay away from their newly built homes but also from their older built homes.
  • Great thanks!  I'll keep that in mind!

  • Hey, I'm from your neck of the woods and live here now.  I agree with all of the pp suggestions.  We have a Shumaker and while it is a good house, I do not know that we would get one again.  I hear from other people in the area they have gone down in quality.  Our development had to different general managers so to speak.  Our builder guy was great, but when he left other people did not get as good as service.  I've heard Schumacher is also good (yes, they are different than Shumaker).
  • DH is in the contruction/HVAC business and knows about every builder in the city.  I do agree w/ the pp about Mungo and Beazer.  Neither of them are great builders.  Depending on what you want to spend, Rymarc is good quailty for the money.  They are more of a cost effective type builder (lower housing cost).  There are a lot of custom home builders in the area as well.  There is also DR Horton (they have some mid to higher end homes).  If you need to know some custom builders, let me know.  I can get a great list from DH.

As for neighborhoods, there are plenty of new ones to be found!  Just depends on which area of town you are looking at.
