Moving to SC!

Hi everyone!  My husband just accepted a job starting in July in Beaufort.  We are thinking about moving to West Ashley (I know, the commute would be horrible, but my dad lives in Mt. P and we want to be near him)- we don't know anybody there- could anyone rec. a good neighborhood for young children?  Thanks!

  • Yikes that would be a long commute! There are good areas and bad ones too! We live in Melrose, it's an old neighborhood on the edge of WA off Hwy 17. Some new places are Carolina Bay and Hunt Club. But I'm pretty sure those prices are very high, but that may be in your range. Avondale and South Windermere are both nice and some neighborhoods off of Hwy 61.

My favorite search for house is this addy. I don't know the agent, I just like her site!

You can search all listings and our zip code is 29414 for West Ashley. Hope this helps and GL!

  • i would definetly stay on the south side of town! that is going to be one heck of a commute...

there are several new neighborhoods going in around this area. we live across from Carolina Bay and also looked in Stono Ferry which is off 17 about five more miles south but would keep you out of the morning traffic mess. but your budget is going to determin a lot.

i would say look look look before buying. we had 3 days to find a house and this town has so many cute little neighborhoods that i missed out on a few even though i LOVE where i live. i also would not live very far west off hwy 17 or anywhere on hwy 61.

  • Thanks guys!  This helps SO much!
  • we just purchased our second house in west ashley. I prefer towards the high school and west ashley park. If you go towards sam rittenburg or savannah hwy the houses are mostly older. we didn't really like the feel of the neighborhoods. There  are some great ones down 61 towards the plantations. and a new subdivison off of bee's ferry. We looked in shadowmoss, they have a combination of older and newer homes. Good Luck finding the one for you.
