Can ya tell I like to know everyone's favorites?
Restaurant?
If it's city specific, what city?
Re: Favorite Restaurant?
Mangia Mangia
I totally understand about the food snob issue, since moving to Charleston I have to watch what I say in other towns, I sound awful! One night my mother looked at me, like "my child just didn't say that..."
I have a snooty pallet too but my husband has a tight wallet. We like Diane's but its a bit much. Saluda's in 5 Points is one of our favorites. My most favorite is Gervais & Vine on Gervais Street in the Vista.
Garibaldi's is also a favorite.
In Columbia I like the Baan Sawan, Mr. Friendly's (shrimp & steak salad), Za's and brunch at Liberty. I do NOT like that new place Tsunami. Also, try Garibaldi's, I love love love the flounder. Mmmmm, and Nonnahs, cake, coffee, good wine and fun art.
In Charleston, I like The Mustard Seed, Saffron's, Shem Creek Bar & Grill and the Banana Cabana on IOP and some restaurant at the Bohicket Marina (can't remember the name). Magnolia, Cypress, Blossom, SNOBs, Five Fulton, and Garibaldis are really good. Hyman's, Poogans Porch, 1862 Queen and most of the others are just overhyped tourist traps. There's a candy store on S. Market St (starts with a K, can't remember the name) that's great. I like to go there, get treats, and see if I can grab a swing on the boardwalk.
In Greenville, I like Charley's steakhouse in downtown, all of the Stax restaurants and City Grill (good salads).
Aiken: Olive Oil's, West Side Bowery
Greenville: Sassafras, Trio
Clemson: Ancheaux, Eddie Spaghetti (best stromboli ever!)
Myrtle Beach area: Nance's (on the inlet), Tony's
