ob/gyn recs?

Sorry, I know this is asked all the time.

I'm specifically looking for a female OB who delivers at Baptist.  I'd even prefer someone who has had a child herself.  I know it sounds picky, but I'm weird about this.  I've had many male GYNs, but when it comes to pregnancy I'd like someone who's "been there."

Any recommendations?

Re: ob/gyn recs?

  • no recs. I delivered at Williamson but congrats on being PG.

  • Dr. Sharon Norman at WOMEN in the building connected to Baptist.  She delivers at Baptist (check) and has a daughter (check, check).  I had to see Dr. Ann Scott once during my pregnancy and she was great too.  Two friends see Dr. Schlecter there...you can't go wrong with any of the docs!
The only complaint that I have is that if you do not deliver during the week, during the day, you will have the doctor who is on call (regardless of if your doc is in town)...but they do not have a policy where you meet all of the docs during your prenatal visit.  This may be standard practice at other offices, but it just bummed be out a little since I like Dr. Norman so much.  I ended up having a c-section at 2 in the morning when she was on call, so it ended up being 'no big deal' I guess.
Wow.  Didn't mean to make that so long!  Congrats on your BFP!  My boss is getting ready to have her ER this next week at NFC--lots of anxiousness around my office for her!

  • I just switched to a new person. I went to Glover, on recs from my best friend who just had a baby in December. Their site is: http://www.etws.org/html/docs.html And there is a female there. They have an office at Baptist West. The down side is I had to tell (on my particular visit) that I was there, offer my insurance cards and such. Once I got into the back everyone was really nice.
    Good luck on your search!
  • My OB is Dr. Oldfield. She delivers at Baptist and her office is in one of the medical buildings connected to Baptist.(222 Murphy Avenue - not to be confused with Murphy Road). She's part of Tennessee Women's Care. She was great delivering DS and will be delivering #2 in August (both c-sections). All of the doctors in that group are good, although I think most of the others are men (I haven't seen them all). She has 2 children and actually recommended her pedi too, who I love.
  • My OB is Dr. Nancy Lipsitz, delivers and Vanderbilt and Baptist. She is at Heritage Medical Associates. She came from Vanderbilt and she is very kind, takes so much time with you and makes me feel very comfortable and I dont normally feel comfortable with most people examining my privates, etc. I am actually a little weird about it.

I just love her, and switched from Dr. Oldfield who was my GYN for years, and a good one, but I felt she was a little too nonchalant for me when I talked to her about TTC. IAlso had a co-worker who had a bad expereince with her a few years ago when they were pregnant. I am sure others like the pp have had great experiences with her, but wanted to share my POV.

  • Mine is Dr. Katherine Haney with Tennessee Women's Care.  She delivers at both Baptist and Centennial, and has a young son and daughter (and I totally know what you mean about wanting an OB who is a parent herself...I wanted the same myself).  I really LOVE Dr. Haney - she is awesome!
  • I LOVE Dr.Crowe at Womens. She delivers at Baptist. She has children (3 maybe?) and it so open to anything that you want to do with your labor.delivery which was most important to me. She really listens too.

I switched to her after a bad experience with a doc at Williamson, and could not be happier that I did!!

Good luck and I am so happy for you to have gotten your BFP!! Congrats!!

  • I love Dr. Anne Anderson with Tennessee Women's Care.  Her office is adjacent to Baptist, she delivers at Baptist, and has two year old twins :)  I went to WOMEN when I first moved to town and just wasn't impressed - too big and impersonal for me (but, I wasn't an OB patient, so might be different).  Dr. Anderson's office isn't as pretty :), but I feel like I get more attention.  GL!
  • I go to Dr. Niar at Women's Baptist West in Knoxville.. and I love her!!!!!!!! She is great... I don't know if you are in Knoxville or Nashville... but if you are close to Knoxville she is great and she does have kids!
  • I also go to Dr. Haney (Katie's rec). She's great!! She has a great disposition and makes me feel very at ease.
  • For years I went to Woods & Cain-Swope at St. Thomas (they deliver at Baptist).  My doc was Allison Strnad but I liked all of them (there's 4).  I only switched because my insurance changed.  I now go to Erin Yu at Women's Medical Associates.  Their office is next to Centennial and they deliver there and Baptist.  So far I really like her.
