planning a weekend in nashville!!!

hi there!
dh and i graduated from vandy a few years ago and i've just made plans to surprise him with a visit over his 30th bday weekend in april.   nashville is our favorite city, so i am really excited :)
does anyone have any advice on places to look for activities (websites, magazines, etc) or on good places to eat?  i know we'll hit our old stomping grounds, but there are bound to be some great new places that i know nothing about.
thanks so much!!

Re: planning a weekend in nashville!!!

  • what kind of food you looking for? there are some great places that have opened up the past couple years. check out nashvillescene.com for events info.
  • ditto the nashville scene.  if you google "nashville scene" and "best of nashville 2007" you should be able to find their most recent list - can't go wrong!  what part of town do you plan on visiting?  sticking around the vandy area?  i'm not sure how long ago you guys were here, but i love hillsboro village for any meal (esp. breakfast/brunch!) and window shopping.
  • great -- i'll definitely check out the nashville scene!

we'll definitely go to boscos at some point, and i'm thinking jimmy kellys for his bday dinner.   also will visit percy warner and marys barbeque.    i dont want to limit us to an area, but we probably will end up between downtown and  percy warner...   honestly, just driving around, breathing the air and enjoying the city is what i am looking forward to most.

  • for a special birthday dinner i would say watermark would be a great option.

its very good, upscale and they have outdoor seating that overlooks the city -- if the weather is nice it would be a great experience! its in the gulch, which is really booming. sambucca next door is a supper club and they have live music.

i like hanging out aroung 12 south at places like rumors wine bar.

cabana is a great place in hillsboro village to go for drinks.

  • East Nashville is another area that has really grown. We love Margot Cafe. Wonderful food and a warm, cozy atmosphere (very romantic!). They also have a great Sunday brunch. Sweet 16 Bakery is yummy too.

There's bound to be plenty going on in April since the weather will be warmer. I also agree that you should check out the nashville scene online for event listings.

  • watermark looks fabulous!  is it someplace that i can wait to see how the weather is and still get in or should i make a reservation just in case?

thanks so much for the suggestions, everyone!

  • reservations are a must - days in advance! there is a place very close to there you could go for dinner or drinks after called radius 10 - its a little more industrial though, but the food is great
  • We love Sambuca! Its off 12th avenue
