Need some tips on where the locals go....
Me, my DH and DD who is 17 months old will be visiting the Nashville area this weekend and we leave on Tuesday. This isn't a vacation but a chance to see where we will be living in the next few months.
A realtor is going to show us around Nashville, Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Hendersonville, Goodlettsville, Galatin.... Wish we could afford Williamson county but it's out of our budget.
Would love to know where you hang out on the weekends, we will have our baby with us so it must be family oriented....we love nature, parks, lakes, ducks, nice playgrounds, indoor activities for little ones'...family friendly restaurants...looking for locally owned rest., not anything like Ruby Tuesday. And if you only know of a really good "chain" restaurant would like to hear from you. Last time we came up we went to the Adventure Science Center , our baby seemed to be a little to young for that but she still had a blast...we did too....we also went to the Opry Mills Mall and ate at the Aquarium which was nice.
Ohhh and if there's any festivals or events going on would love to know about it....
TIA
Renee'

Some of the other girls on this board might be of more help to you w/real estate -- we live near downtown, so I'm not familiar with the areas that you listed. We have looked in Hendersonville though. It's a great area - we've been looking at houses on the lake there.
As for activities -- well, there is the Zoo, which is small (not exactly a ton of animals), but it's great for families and it's laid out nicely for walking. They have a nice park/playground section for picnics too.
Radnor Lake Park is really nice. Also, Percy Warner Park. You might want to look into Cheekwood Gardens too - I don't know what it's exactly like this time of year since it's cold, but it's really pretty. I can't think of any other kid things right now.
We don't do chain restaurants either - what kind of food are you looking for? The Loveless Cafe is a great Nashville restaurant - we like going there for breakfast. Their biscuits are heavenly. It's usually crowded, but you can call ahead.
If you look down a few posts, you'll see that there is a Nashville Guide Bio and it's been recently updated. I know that there are suggestions for activities and restaurants in there too.
Sportsman's Lodge (if that's the official name - someone help me out) in Cool Springs is very family friendly. We go there all the time with our 17.5 month old and there are always tons of kids there. But, if you're spending most of your time on the north side, its in the opposite direction from where you'll be...
I don't know where you are staying so I am not sure what is going to be located near you. We are in Mount Juliet and frequently visit Providence Shopping Center. I really like the Billy Goat Coffee, I know it's a odd name. There are several places in Mount Juliet to visit the lake. Feeding the ducks, well actually the seagulls, has become my favorite weekend pass time. I really enjoy the nature aspect of living in Mount Juliet. There is a nice park in Mount Juliet with a big playground. It's located behind the highschool.
In Nashville I second Mafiaoza's! I don't know of any festivals that are going on. I always encourage people to go to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Kids get in free! Check out nashvillescene.com.
Be aware when looking at houses that Goodlettsville falls in both Sumner and Davidson counties. I know that the Sumner County part of Goodlettsville is not bad but avoid the "Rivergate" area of Goodlettsville. Have you checked out any properties on realtracs.com?
Good luck finding a home and welcome to Nashville!
