Daycare reccs in West Nashville?
I am looking to check out some backup daycares because Vandy is on a year wait currently. Anyone have any experience with a daycare near West Nashville or between Nashville and Brentwood? Needs to be at least 2 stars. Thanks!
Re: Daycare reccs in West Nashville?
Are you pregnant!??! Did I miss an announcement??
I don' tknow the name of it but my neighbor has her infant daughter in the one at the corner of Woodmont and 12th Ave, and she LOVES it. She's a pediatrician, so I'd bet she knows a thing or two about day cares in this town.
I did a somewhat limited daycare search when I was originally thinking I would be putting a kid in daycare. Then, I found out we were having twins, and that kind of shot the going back to work plans out the window due to the great expense of putting 2 in daycare (I found it averages about $250/week/child if you want a place that really offers a lot of developmentally appropriate activities and not just babysitting services). Anyway...here are the ones that I looked at - not all are in West Nashville:
Creative Care Center (Hillsboro Presbyterian Church)
West End Methodist
The Gardner School
Wee Care Childcare
KinderCare
Belmont Methodist Weekday school (BWS)

Cheekwood Child Development

St. Thomas Family Center
I only toured 2 facilities, and absolutely loved them both. One was the Gardner School (I toured the Donelson location - but there is one in Brentwood) and it was wonderful - clean, bright, fun, and great activities to encourage social and cognitive development. I also toured St. Thomas Family Center, which is located near the corner of Knob and White Bridge Road. It's in a converted home and just has a very cozy feel to it - and it looks wonderful. They also run another daycare center near Baptist Hospital. Both facilities sound awesome. But, if you're not an employee of the St. Thomas health system, there is a long wait list. I have a friend who has her 10 month old at First Baptist downtown, and she loves it.
Your options for daycare get much better once a child turns one - a lot of these places don't take infants, or if they do, they only do so on a full-time basis...which may be fine for you - I was just looking for part-time.
I hope you get in the Vandy one - I hear it's awesome!
I am sure there are a lot of other daycare options...I really only looked at a few, but hopefully this may get you started.
Take care,
Katie
I looked at many of the ones posted by ImRonBurgandy. We ended up putting Parker into the Gardner School and love it. He's out at the one near the airport now (as I was working out that way at the time), but we're on the waiting list for the Cool Springs location since we've recently moved to Brentwood and I can work from home now. TGS at Brentwood is nearly impossible to get into. I toured the Baptist Hospital one and was really depressed by it. It was so institutional feeling and the kids didn't seem to be actively engaged in play. I didn't look at the St. Thomas version - I think they are both Bright Horizons schools.
The best thing you can do is go and visit. As ImRon mentioned, many of the good church schools start at 1 or 2 years. If we had stayed in Sylvan Park, I was thinking about enrolling him in the West End UMC program when he was old enough as I had heard great things about it. You're lucky you work at Vandy and can get on the waitlist there - it's supposed to be great.
I did find that EVERYWHERE I looked, there was a long wait list, so I would advise you to go visit ASAP and put your name on a few lists (you'll have to pay $80-100 deposit) and see where you get in when the time comes.
and i am so glad i posted bc everyone gave some great replies!
Congrats, but don't get disappointed if you can't yet hear the hearbeat. You usually can't hear it until 12 weeks, so it may still be a bit too soon. I have had 2 u/s already (at 8weeks to date it and again today at 12 weeks for the NT scan) and she just tried to hear the hb for the first time today. It took a while but she found it, but it was faint. I saw it beating strongly on the u/s though, so I know it's ok. Anyway, just wanted to warn you in case your OB didn't tell you that you may not hear it this early.
