What's everyone doing for Valentine's Day?

I don't want to fight restaurant crowds... I was thinking of surprising DH and cooking a romantic dinner for him.  I'm off that day, so I have plenty of time to prepare.  Any other ideas??  :)

Re: What's everyone doing for Valentine's Day?

  • We always do fondue on Valentine's Day--it's a little cliche, but it's fun and a great way to spend time together.
  • The past two years we've done something special just at home.  The first year I cooked, the second he cooked.

This year my parents are coming into town that day.  I'm super excited just to have them here again.  :)  We aren't huge on the Valentine's thing as we both feel its a very commericalized holiday.  And why not make each other feel special every day of the year!
  • I agree!  It is very commercialized.  Two years ago we took a trip to Gatlinburg that just happened to fall during V-day.  It snowed the night before we left (we were in the hot tub ;) ) and the next day, everything was covered!  It was so beautiful!

I think this year I'll cook... he won't be expecting that!  :)
  • Cooking in is an excellent idea!  We plan to do it too.  And DH loves to have a nice, hot drawn bath with bath fizzies (total Chandler, I guess) so I guess I'll need to draw him a bath and join him ;)

Although I love fancy dining, paying double the usual bill for a prix fixe meal at 9:30 pm with justifiably crabby waitstaff and a hour wait even with reservations is not my idea of romantic.  Neither is soaring blood pressure.

  • We are going out to dinner. . . . v-day is totally not my thing - we've never acknowledged it with anything other than a card! - but I'm actually really excited, because DH took it upon himself to come up with the idea, make the reservation, etc. . . .
  • Dharma- My DH can be a little Chandler too, but I love him for it!! That'll be fun! :) That's nice, GuitaristsGirl! You gotta love when the guys take the initiative!! :) Have a great time!!
  • We are staying home too. Its not worth trying to go out to eat on V day. We will probably do dinner and a movie this weekend.

  • We are staying in.  We hate fighting the crowds.  DH is making me the same dinner he made the night be proposed.  We are making a fancy dessert together.

  • We will be staying in, enjoying a nice home-cooked dinner, and watching LOST.  We are going to Spamalot this weekend, followed by dinner out downtown, so I guess we will count that as our special celebration.
  • COUPLES MASSAGE!!  I am so excited!  My friend Brandy is a massage therapist at The Massage Gardens in Knoxville (http://themassagegardens.com/), and is awesome!  They started doing couples massages around Christmas, but life was too hectic then.  I CANNOT WAIT!!!  Is it Thursday yet?!
  • DH is out of town, so I'll be spending it with my other main man, my 17 mo son. We'll probably have chicken nuggets and tater tots...how romantic! :)
  • DH is making a dinner for us. We never eat out on the Vday, totally commercial and so on. If anyone wants to get out, I recommend Arrington Vineyards. You could bring a picnic and sit by the bonfire and have some of their wine. I like the syrah. They are supposed to have live jazz and truffles for everyone that goes. Its something out of the norm.
  • Well....yesterday was our 2 year anniversary, so we did most of our celebrating then. We had a picnic in our back field, and then we were going to go eat Italian, but I did not feel like getting all fancied-up. I had to take my hubby with me to one of my jobs, and we drove right by Mickey Roo's (Texas BBQ) & we decided just to go there after my job. It was a good choice....we had a nice & relaxing time & stayed there for a few hours. For V-Day we will just be staying in & watching movies.
  • I will spend the day doing flower deliveries and then come home and climb into a nice hot bath.
  • We'll be going out to a restaurant - to wait tables all night.  Yup, I'll be part of the bitter and grumpy wait staff.
