Favorite Nashville Mexican restaurant?
Hey ladies -
My husband and I are still on the hunt for the best Mexican restaurant in town. My 2 favorite so far are Las Chivas and La Hacienda, both off of Nolensville Rd, but I'm wondering if we're missing any other good ones.
Also - unrelated to my post subject - but have you guys found a decent Chinese restaurant? We're completely striking out on that... and no P.F Changs recommendations please!
Thanks!
Katie
Re: Favorite Nashville Mexican restaurant?
El Palenque in Green Hills is our favorite.
We don't really eat much Chinese, so I can't help with that.
Can't really help much with Chinese - there are a few good buffets but none that really "wow" me.
The state of Chinese food is such that it made me switch permanently over to Thai, Vietnamese and Ethiopian for good measure. But I've heard pretty good recommendations about Golden Coast on West End around the Days Inn. And according to a covert food inspector in Nashville (NScene article), it was the only Chinese place she would eat.
Although there's a special little spot in my tummy for Publix's cheap and chinese-y dinner meal. Hardly gourmet. Or authentic.
Hey Katie!!
The girls are too cute!!
As for Mexican, we have been searching high and low for our go-to place - we also like La Hacienda the best. We tend to be very picky since DH grew up in Southern California. But, we really enjoy LH. Also, we've eaten at La Palenque (sp?) before and thought it was pretty good, too. We'll have to try Las Chivas.
There is a newish place in that Edgehill area called Rosario's that's pretty good as well. It's a little more "upscale" mexican - the menu isn't huge, but we've eaten there a couple of times and have enjoyed our food quite a bit. They have one of those weird liquor licenses though, so no beer.
Chinese - I'm stumped. Most people I ask tell me that Golden Coast on West End is the best (it's next to Atlanta Bread Co.). From the looks of it, it looks kind of like a hole in the wall place, so it probably is good!
Mexican - Garcia's is THE BEST! It's one of my fav restaurants here. It's all very fresh stuff. Their fish tacos are so wonderful! It's in Franklin right off hwy 96 by the Kroger and next to Hobby Lobby.
We've also been to las palmas and I like some of their food. Their fajita burrito is great, but I have also had things there that I didn't love. I don't like la hacienda - not fresh enough for me.
Our favorite mexican restaurant is also Cinco de Mayo, but we go to the one in Hermitage.
I have heard rave reviews about Rose Peppers...their margaritas are apparently all fresh. Haven't been yet, but a bunch of co-workers swear by them.
For chinese, we go to Fulin's. There is one in Brentwood in the Target shopping center, next to Panera....and there is one in Providence in Mt. Juliet also. It probably isn't quite the cheap Chinese you are wanting, but it's the best we've found. There aren't a lot of chinese choices...
Thanks a lot, Katie. Ever since reading this post, I have been craving Mexican food!! We might check out Las Chivas tonight instead of our normal La Hacienda. :-)
I always forget about Sol in Franklin. That is supposed to be good (what I hear, anyways). Also, like someone mentioned, Rosepepper Cantina is decent. There's a different vibe there compared to the more traditional places though. I would go there more for the atmosphere than the food - it's fun if you're going with a crowd of people.
I am so lame right now because I keep posting about mexican food! lol. Anyways, I just remembered something about Rosarios - you have to pay for chips and salsa. LAME! I forgot about that.
Okay, carry on.
Another vote for El Sombrero off Nolensville. DH and I eat there a few times a month! Their grande quesadilla is really good and their margaritas are great. Their service is always excellent.
