Comments on the town Lavergne

We're moving to the Nashville area but not sure exactly where, I've seen many houses online in the town of Lavergne and needed some feedback regarding safety, crime, family oriented, schools.  Any info. you can give me would be wonderful.  I did look online for the "stats" of the town but would rather here opinions from the locals.

TIA

Re: Comments on the town Lavergne

  • A good friend of mine lives in Lavergne and is pretty happy. He's never had any safety issues. The town does have some less than desirable areas. Overall the schools are good ( much better than Nashville).
I don't really think of it as being a family oriented place but I haven't lived there.

I live in Mount Juliet and am very happy. :-)
  • Oh, I noticed your post below. My brother lives in the Aventura at Providence apartments in Mount Juliet. They are really nice and it's really family oriented in that area. The schools are great and it's a straight shot to the airport via I40. They also accept large pets.
  • OK.....I don't know a WHOLE lot about Lavergne. I went to MTSU from 1997-2000 & I was around in the Smyrna & Lavergne area from time to time. Back then there wasn't really much there nothing was really getting developed at the time. It seemed very quiet & very safe. I am not sure about it now. I know there has been a lot of developing now since Nashville is getting so expensive to live in. I am also not sure how safe it is now. Murfreesboro is a great little town....it is really growing & there is a lot to do around there. It is a little bit of a haul to Nashville, but it is a straight shot up 24 so it's not too bad.
  • I will agree, I loved living in Murfreesboro when I was in collage. It's very affordable to live there. I do thnk it would be a great place to raise a family. There are plenty of parks, they actually have a town square, the schools are good....I think I miss living there. :-) The drive is a bit longer but it's a nice place to live.

  • Thanks a bunch for the info  ;)
  • I had a co-worker who lived in Lavergne and said it was a horrible place.  I wish I knew where specifically he lived!  He said crime was out of control and his wife didn't feel safe at all.  Every day he'd come in bemoaning the area and saying how desperate they were to sell.  He said they celebrated the day their house finally sold because they were so happy to get out of there (and they had very few showings because of the area).  They moved to go to law school at LSU.

I guess the moral of this story is to look closely.  Obviously my co-worker lived in a bad area - just be sure to do your homework since I don't know where specifically he lived!
  • No offense meant at all to anyone who likes or lives in M'boro, but I have tried so hard to like that area and I just don't ... at all.  I get a horrible feeling for some reason whenever I am in the boro.  I tried to go to MTSU, but hated it and the area.  I hate driving around the area, and find it to be very beaten down in a lot of parts.  There WERE some gorgeous large houses, but for the most part the shopping, restaurants, etc. are really not something I'd like to live near.  I am not a fan of that corner of Middle TN at all and I really can't pinpoint exactly...just some feeling I get!
  • When we were looking at houses it seemed to us that the areas down 24 (Antich, Smyrna, Lavergne, M'borro) were the areas that would be most likely to decrease in value sooner.  We opted to head down 65 (Franklin, Thompson's Station, Spring Hill) instead where it is booming and we got the impression that things were only going to go up.  The home that we bought was almost 5 years old and the seller made $40k+ in that 4-5 years they owned the home.

Also, the commute on 65 into Nashville seems to be much smoother during rush hour than on 24.
April is National Grilled Cheese Month. How are you celebrating? image
  • Ummm...there is nothing wrong with Murfreesboro at all. I don't know why you would say that, and there is also nothing wrong with the school. While it is fine to disagree & not like a place, there are much nicer ways of saying that. I went to MTSU and it is a great school...I even lived there for awhile, and we were close to buying there. It is just a very congested area, and that's it. No...it's not a ritzy part of town, but who cares. It has all the same restaurants & stores that any other little city has. I don't see what the big deal is with it. I'm not trying to attack you or anything, but that just sounded very rude....and you slightly offended me....and maybe someone else who lives there. Just think about how you say things.
  • THink about how *I* say things? Are you kidding me? It seems like you get to be very blunt and honest, but anyone else who does it is being "rude".  What's up with that, really???

I didn't say anything specifically bad about it. I said I personally don't like the area.  It's the truth.  I've TRIED very hard to like it and the school.  Obviously your experience was/is different, but that doesn't mean mine doesn't exist jsut b/c you think it's not that way.  I didn't like the campus or the areas of town I've drive through or shopped at.

I even said I couldn't pinpoint anything exactly wrong w/ the area, just a feeling I got.  That doesn't mean someone else doesn't love it and that's fine. I'm just giving my opinion.  In fact when DH and I were looking to buy our first home and looking in M'boro and Spring Hill I believe YOU told me that M'boro was too much of a college town and we'd be better off in Williamson Co.   I think that is very oddthat you say that and now freak out when I say I didn't like the area.  We looked at a lot of houses there and just decided it wasn't for us.  Oh well.

Maybe I do like a little nicer area - what is WRONG w/ that? I like feeling safe and comfortable in all of the areas I go to and I didn't feel like that in the boro.  There is nothing rude about that.
