We Can't Let This Happen!

This is BEYOND ridiculous! What's next??? Rotties? German Shepherds? Huskies??? We cannot let this bill be passed....it will not stop with Pit Bulls. Please call the state & oppose this bill! Send this to everyone you know! Pit Bulls are not the problem....PEOPLE are the problem! Thanks.....Amy (A Pittie Lover!)

Re: We Can't Let This Happen!

  • I am soooo very upset at hearing this! I have a pit-boxer mix and she is absolutely the sweetest dog that ever lived.  I agree that people are the problem. If you are kind to an animal they are kind in nature. If you are mean or agressive toward an animal they will only mimic your actions in being mean or agressive.  I think if a dog bites someone its owner should be put away along with the dog.
  • The man filing this bill doesn't really want pit bulls to be banned, but rather for owners to be fined if their dog (of any breed) is harmful to others.

Senator Kilby said Thursday night he plans to back down on banning all pit bulls and amend the bill, adding he simply wanted to file some sort of legislation about dangerous dogs before Thursday's filing deadline.

"It will be to say that if you own one of these dogs, whether it's a pit bull or whether it's some other vicious dog that has been made to be vicious and to have the propensity to do bodily harm to human beings, that you need to be responsible for it," he said.

    Feel better?
  • Thats crazy. There is a family on my street that has 6 or 7 dogs. The pit bull is the most well behaved out of all of them. She is the only one that doesnt bark at you for being in your own yard. I wish the other dogs in that house were all like that.

  • Well.....I am not sure I believe that story. I am a BSL activist,a nd go around to various groups speaking about it & such. That is how I heard about it. Anyway.... no....they do want a ban on all "Pit Bulls." But...even if they only do what that article reports is is a bad thing. It is just a doorway for more to happen as far as legislation goes. It is in direct violation of our 14th ammendment. It just goes to show how ignorant people are about dogs & dog behavior.
  • amykevin- We may have to agree to disagree because I think this is a door that needs to be opened.

Pet owners that train their dogs to be vicious and violent need to be reprimanded (e.g.: fined).  This is a form of abuse to these animals.

This ban is not about the animal, it's about the owner, and the ammendment will prove that.

  • Well...that is not how it is written or presented. I do a lot of work with BSL all the time. I work with animals for a living. I really don't believe Senator Kilby. Either that, or he has decided to back down once he saw the flood of emails, letters & calls.

What they NEED to do is vamp up the leash law, and have an anti-tethering law in place. The people who do the bad things to the dogs will continue to do them. There are not enough Animal Control Officers to enforce that.
  • Oh...and the thing about the fines....

The fines do not work now...people do not care.

But...any kind of legislation like this against a particular breed is a bad step in the wrong direction, and it only opens more doors.
  • I tried to be civil but you didn't want to play along, so:

Before you start blasting your credentials over the internet yet again, perhaps you should consider that you?re not the only one who works with animals.

WTF do you mean ?that is not how it is written or presented??  I gave you the sources to put it all together.  How else do you think it reads?

Frankly, I don?t care whether you believe Senator Kilby or not.  You?ve already decided to oppose anything to do with laws restricting dog abuse.  And, you actually think he won?t go through with the proposed amendment?!  Apparently you?re off your rocker in the first place.  There would be more people up in his business than he knows what to do with?people don?t forget.

Yeah, the leash law and anti-tethering law would be stellar ideas and would solve all the problems...(eye-roll).

?The fines do not work now?  You don?t know how they?ll work because they?re not in place (yet)!  Also, fines were just an example (that?s what e.g. means).

?But...any kind of legislation like this against a particular breed is a bad step in the wrong direction, and it only opens more doors.?  Yet again, this amendment is not breed-specific.

You?re just immaturely bitter that not everyone agreed with you.  Get over yourself.

  • Wow....that is pretty immature of you. There are fines currently in place for animal abuse, animals running at large, etc.... The bill IS breed specific & it even says so. It is also a known fact that a family member of Senator Kilby was killed by a "Pit Bull" so he is very biased. You can go and look the bill up yourself on the state website. It is pretty clear as to what it means. I really cannot believe what you just wrote. I was not spilling my credentials, but I was just letting you know that I am pretty well-informed on this issue since I have been working with BSL for close to 5 years now. So...you have your opinions & I have mine....but mine are based on actual experience, not just what the media feeds me. I personally do not believe everything that I hear from the media, and no one should. I also do not believe everything that comes out of a politician's mouth. This bill has nothing to do with dog abuse. Please read my original post. It was taken directly from the bill from the Tennessee State Government website. Word for word. This is nothing to do with just dog abuse. Of course I am against dog abuse.....I mean do you think I am effin' crazy? Apparently you think I am, but you know NOTHING about me or the work that I do with animals....not just for my business, but I am also a huge animal right's advocate. Of course I am against animal abuse. I don't see a single word in the bill stating that it is against animal abuse. I am against the government singling out breeds & punishing those people who own those breeds. That is exactly what this is. You seriously need to grow up & get a life. I was not even saying that leash laws & anti-tethering laws would fix all the problems. You really need to read everything before you just start responding. In fact, I never even made this personal...you did....and that is very very childish. I did read the link you provided....that was one person's account from a Senator who is lying out his teeth.
  • foolishwoman - your screen name certainly fits.   Pot, meet kettle.
  • No, you made this personal when you responded directly to my comments.

All I did was provide information for you to consider, but instead you took it completely the wrong way?probably thinking that I was attacking you which I wasn?t.

And YES, you did blast your credentials in both posts you wrote, so how can you say you didn?t?

I realize what I said may have been harsh, but I stand by what I said.

When people say ?let?s agree to disagree? it?s meant as a means to an end.  You chose not to cooperate and went on with your little rant.  That?s why I wrote the last post.

Look, normally I like you.  You keep the board alive sometimes when it would have otherwise been dead.  But this one post has gotten way out of hand.

No matter what, we?re still going to believe that the other doesn?t know WTF they?re talking about.  I?m done.

  • JCM-  way to jump in at the last minute
  • I didn't take your comment "let's agree to disagree" as an end. It just sounded like an out for you. I'm sorry, but I could not that stand. I don't know why you think I don't know what I am talking about. In fact I have been talking with Senator Mae Beavers about this all week & she is keeping me informed. How can you think that someone who directly works with this doesn't know what the hell they are talking about? I only backed up my credentials so that you would stop shoving that information in my face. I appreciate it, but I cannot base an opinion off a report from the media about a Senator who I don't trust at all. I never ever made this personal, I am sorry that you took it that way...you must have read too much into it. You obviously think that things like this are no big deal. That is fine, you are entitled to your opinions & I am entitled to mine. I always base my opinions on what I know & my research from solid sources. But, I work on BSL all the time.....in fact with all animal issues....it is a huge passion of mine, and I do happen to know a lot about it.... that is why I go around and educate people. Some people can just not be educated, and apparently you are one of them. Even if this bill does not pass, or if Kilby decides to ammend the bill BSL is still a huge issue & needs to be addressed. As of right now the bill still stands how it was originally written, but I know he has been getting a lot of flack from various groups & individuals. This is the last thing that I will say because I am tired of beating on a dead horse here. But, is this what you do when someone disagrees with you? You start to attack them personally? That really shows your lack of maturity & it also shows a huge lack of information to back your beliefs up. I don't care at all if you disagree with me...that is fine....everyone has their opinions, but you are basing everything off a stupid new report & are shoving it in my face. It is just the way you are going about this.
