can atlanta be a day trip or is it too far

and we should get a hotel room?

we want to do the atlanta aquarium soon.

Re: can atlanta be a day trip or is it too far

  • It took us about 4 hours to get there when we went, which would make for a long day, IMHO.  But, I hear the aquarium is fantastic!!
  • I think it would be a long trip with little kids.  Along with PP it took us about 4 hours one way to get there.  We stayed over.

  • You could do ATL in one day, but you'd either not have the time to do everything you want, you might rush what you want to do, or you'll be dead tired.  Like the other posters mentioned, it's about 3-3.5 hours driving.  Factor in at least an unanticipated half-hour to hour for traffic jams.  Any time of day.

A hotel room for the night might be a really good idea.  Especially for the kiddiewinkles that might get crabby after a long long day

You might want to call the aquarium and make sure of their hours.  ATL is still in severe water restriction mode.  I'm not sure what that means for the aquarium, however.

  • You could do it in a day, but getting a hotel room would make for a more relaxing trip, especially with kids. Depending on traffic, it takes anywhere from 3 to 4+ hours.

You could do the zoo too!
  • We used to day trips to Atlanta quite regularly before some of my favorite stores opened in Green Hills, however, it was a LONG day.  With little ones it would be tough.  It was always more pleasant when we spent the night.  Traffic on weekends is not bad, but road construction was an issue on our most recent trip.  That caused some backups.
  • It was an easy day trip when I lived in Chattanooga....and we did it often. I will say...when I was about to be discharged from the Navy...they had me stationed at the Air base in Atlanta.....and on weekends I would drive up here to Franklin to see my then fiance'. It was always a hard trip on me....I could never do a day trip from here. I'd get a room!
