Nashville girls - which church do you attend?

If any? :)  Hubby and I are thinking of making a switch and I'd love some guidance other than opening the phone book!  We don't have any strict criteria even as to denomination, size, etc. - we're just looking for a service we can relate to and somewhere to, hopefully, grow some roots.  Any thoughts or comments appreciated!

Re: Nashville girls - which church do you attend?

  • We're Episcopalian and go to the Church of the Advent in Brentwood.  We had a very very hard time finding an Episcopal church in the area - some had teachings we vehemently disagreed with and quite a few just didn't feel right.

I don't know if you've ever been to an E service.  DH and I get everything we want spiritually in a meaningful 75 minute capsule :)  Time to pray, communion, God's word - we leave feeling spiritually nourished.  But if you want something with pop music, hands raised and clapping, girls dancing the liturgy, this is NOT the denomination for you lol
  • We like the Village Chapel on Hillsboro.  They have both Sunday AM and PM services, which we really like.  It's a diverse crowd - the AM is lots of families, the PM is lots of students and is a more artsy crowd.  Very down to earth and friendly.

  • We go to West End United Methodist. We were married there 2 years ago (DH's family church), but just became members last month. We "church shopped" for two years, but always kept coming back to WEUMC because we just felt so comfortable there. This particular Methodist church leans a little socially liberal and the services are very traditional (ditto Tarheels about no foot stomping, etc), which we like. It's a very reverent worship service (we go to the 11am service). I also love, love, love the fact that there are so many classes to choose from, and not all are based on age groups.  Also, the church is VERY involved in serving community, which was a must for us.
  • DH & I don't really attend church on a regular basis, but I have a friend who raves about West End United Methodist.
  • We go to Franklin Christian Church (off Highway 96) in Franklin.  It is non-denominational protestant.  It is very good for younger couples and young families.  There are two services on Sunday morning as well as 'life' groups though out the week.  I really like the Pastor a lot.  I guess I find him easy to relate to.  Worship includes guitars, drums, keyboard and singers.  Communion every week and usually there are sermon series that run for 6-8 weeks on a top or chapter.

  • We go to St. Henry's Catholic Church in the Belle Meade/Bellevue area.  There's a little bit of everything, two of the services are contemporary, two are traditional with the organ and what not.  Also, my hubby & I started a young adult group that has strengthen our faith and relationship with the church.
  • We go to Brentwood Baptist on Concord Rd. It is a huge church...I think they have 3 services, but the preacher is amazing & the people I have met there are so nice. I really like it & I am hoping to get more involved. They have a lot to offer there....for people of all walks of life.
  • We've been attending St. Patrick's Catholic Church on 2nd Ave. We haven't decided to be members quite yet but I love the Priest, he is from my home parish, & it is a smaller church for being Catholic.

    I wish you luck.
  • Just found this board- MH & I go to Hillsboro Church of Christ. We love it. We just recently changed churches and they are the nicest people. Everyone talks to you and we have meet people our age very quickly. The preacher is awsome. He isn't a doom and gloom kinda guy. He is very relateable. Hope you come!
