Affordable beach vacation in fall?

C and I are talking about going away for our anniversary (October) this year.  We don't want to spend a ton of money, but I would really love to just spend a few days at a nice hotel, on the beach.  I would be happy to go to a resort and never leave the grounds, you know?

I've looked into Key West, and that is definitely an option. But where else am I not thinking of?  I know sometimes there are great deals to islands in the Caribbean, but I get nervous about feeling safe there being gay.  Any ideas?

Re: Affordable beach vacation in fall?

  • This is a little hotel that is where I love to go. The trips are inexpensive, the hotel is just your average place but affordable & clean. You can't overlook the ocean from your room, but you are right there at the beach. They also have a beautiful HUGE pool that has a swim up bar in the middle of it. The small ship that takes the trip back and forth to freeport everyday is fine. Again, this isn't like taking a cruise on the big name lines, but it's strictly a boat ride anyway to paradise. Also, the hotel has a water taxi that goes over to Port Lucaya several times all day long and night. There is shopping, a casino, restaurants and bars over there. It all feels very small town to me and it's just not overrun with people. I had no problem feeling "safe" there either.

    So it's just a thought. http://www.discoverycruiseline.com/hotel/flamingo

Wherever you go, I hope you have a FABULOUS time!!

  • how about puerto vallerta? its gay friendly and lots a great deals are out there.  I know I've seen a number of nice looking resorts at purpleroofs.com.

also a note on the carribean, generally speaking they are very gay friendly (well, money friendly anyway). I know Olivia researches thier ports before setting an itinerary to ensure that they only dock at gay-friendly places so I'd feel completely comfortable going anywhere that they include in thier trips.  I can personally rec St. Thomas - there were rainbow stickers everywhere (although andrea joked that they slapped those on the morning of our arival....) Smile

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies! It's funny that I think of the Caribbean as being mostly not gay-friendly, because after doing some research, I found several islands are.  I guess the few instances of hate crimes that I've heard of just stand out in my mind.  It looks like we're going to go with Key West in any case!

  • have you been to key west before? i'm sure you'll have a blast!!
  • I've been there as part of a cruise, so it was just a day.  But I really liked it.  It's such a cool little island, and I love all of the old houses.  Cecilia has never been, and is really excited.  I think it'll be a nice mix because we can lounge by the pool/beach all day, but there's plenty to do at night.  And it looks like we'll be there for Fantasy Fest, which seems to be like PTown's Carnivale, so that will be a sight!  So now we're just deciding where to stay - there are so many good choices, and prices are not bad at all!
