Favorite new spot

I don't think I've posted about my favorite new spot in Indy yet and I feel like I must share this gem.  Goose, the Market,  www.goosethemarket.com, is a little grocery market in Fall Creek Place.  This small shop is equal parts butcher shop, wine cellar, tiny fresh market (fruits and veggies, dry goods, etc.), and deli.  The owners are dedicated to using sustainable grocery methods- bringing in local, fresh and in season ingredients (everything from beef to local veggies to local beer) and offering loads of organic wines, spices and dry goods.  That doesn't mean that EVERYTHING they have there is sustainable (shipping in their Serrano Ham from Spain isn't exactly Earth friendly), but they certainly make an effort when possible.  In addition, Chris makes it his goal to supply hard-to-find or specialty items, so if you've got something special on your grocery list, he will track it down and get it for you.

If you're not into high end meats & cheeses or you don't care for wine (ie, you're not much of a foodie or cook),   you've got to stop by to sample the sandwiches and soups.  They have two small tables in the place (more to come in Summer on the patio) and they offer a different soup everyday that is homemade depending on what Chris, the owner and a great chef, is in the mood for.  So far, they have never repeated a soup. I've tried 6 of them and I think each new one become my "new favorite."  Their sandwiches are made with unique and amazing ingredients and are on great crusty bread.

Yesterday, when I stopped by to get ingredients for dinner (grilled sage and lemon chicken breast with grilled red peppers and ciopponi onions and an asian greens salad with mustard shallot vinegarette), I also noticed that there was a new item on the menu called "The Tour."  For $10 per person (min 2 people), they put together a sample tray of meats, cheeses, bread, and the deli items they have in the case for you so you can have a "european-style" lunch and get to try a bunch of different foods.  They serve it on these really cool wooden boards and said they can even make them up ahead of time for you to pick up for a picnic- they just ask you bring the board back.  How cool is that?  Can't wait to sample that soon!

Anyway, if you haven't been by to try them yet, you should soon.  They are closed on Sundays, but open till 8 on weekdays and 6 on Saturday.  2503 N. Delaware St.

In this spirit, are there any of you that have "hidden gems" from your city or town that you want to share?  Cute boutiques, eateries, markets or public spaces that are worth of a mention?

Re: Favorite new spot

  • Love Goose The Market as well- I posted about it once on here- but it was awhile ago. Chris helped me ship some amazing steaks to my dad in Nevada.
There is Edibles in Irvington- similar to Goose- maybe a little bigger. There is also Jockamo's Upper Crust Pizza in Irvington- awesome. Similar to Bazbeaux (owner was a former B manager), but in my opinion, better.

I just discovered Traders Point Creamery on the NW side- OMG the best milk I've ever had, period. They import Dutch chocolate to add to their organic, grain-fed cow milk- and it's heaven in a glass.
