Indy West and Eastern Hendrix homeowners - recommend your neighborhood!

DH and  I are in the very beginning stages of buying a home.  The issue is that we're relatively new to the area and don't know which areas have lower taxes, less crime, etc.

We have a realtor lined up, but I would also like some advice from people who live in these areas.  DH works in Brownsburg and I drive all over, mostly to North side, though also to Downtown, Pike Plaza, and Danville.

We live in Brownsburg right now and like it, but it would be nice if I didn't have to drive quite so far to get into Indy.

TIA!

Re: Indy West and Eastern Hendrix homeowners - recommend your neighborhood!

  • Avon and Plainfield are both great areas - good schools and good growth. You're closer, but if you don't like dealing with congestion, you might not want to deal with the area.

Camby is also a decent area to live in, the kids would have a further ride to Plainfield schools, but there isn't as much traffic congestion. I live on the Morgan County side of Camby (further in BFE) and it doesn't take me long at all to get downtown or even to the interstate.

I work over by the airport, so I'm not the best person to ask on Indy west areas because I have a bad impression of the area :/

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • I also live in Camby and I drive to 71st everyday. It takes me 20 mins. I love this area as she said not a lot of traffic and it is quiet.  Now that may change when Wal MArt  opens but I DONT CARE.  I feel like we wont have to leave this area much once we get Wal MArt,  O' Charleys I will be a happy girl 2 of my favorite places.  The great thing is in my neighborhood (heartland Corssing) there is a good amount of homes for sale (cheap) due to foreclosures or whatever.

And oh taxes are dirt cheap ($400/yr)

Let me know if you need anymore help and also if you need another realtor

  • I live on the far west side of Brownsburg and I really like the area. I wouldn't mind living closer to the northwest side (maybe Zionsville) but we want to be in a good school district (currently in Tri-west) and also want to avoid large schools. I'd like to move further north but the importance of schools will probably prevent that.
I work in Noblesville but I often drive to the northeast side (for the malls and friends) but also downtown for different things. It takes me 25 minutes to get downtown and 20 minutes to get to Keystone mall. Work takes about 45-50 minutes but I don't think the other drives to places are very bad.

I personally don't think I'd go much further south of Brownsburg (unless you go further south than Avon/plainfield) because of the traffic congestion. Obviously it's not as bad as the Fishers or downtown areas but I think it'll be that way before too long. Camby may not be a bad option but I personally don't know a lot about the area.

If we were to move I think we go a little north rather than south or east of Brownsburg. It really depends on exactly what you're looking for though, and whether you mind the traffic/congestion. I think a good decision would be to live closer to the highways so you could have quicker access to the places you like to go.
