Follow up to HIP

What a joke... I called to triple-check the "educational income" that I was talking about below. She verified with her "superior" and it includes all grants, loans, and scholarships! She said you have to send a copy of the financial aid award letter or MPN and a copy of your school tuition. They take out the cost of tuition
and then the rest of it counts as income. Seriously. So the LOANS that we are getting count as income, regardless of the fact that we have to pay them back. And the grants that DH got for basically being poor now is basically screwing us over. Just when I thought that Indiana had done something right with their healthcare/insurance...

Re: Follow up to HIP

  • that is crazy!  Have you tried to get individual coverage thru anthem or anywhere else?  I used www.ehealthinsurance.com when I needed a policy for about 6 mos, and it was only about $35/month.  It did not cover maternity, had a  higher deduct and copay, but if its just something for some peace of mind should you be in an accident, then it is cheap.  Good luck!
  • Thanks! I'll look into it. For some reason, the only plans I've been able to find are $75+ a month. I guess I need to do better research.
