Officially screwed by grad school >:o

I just now received an email from my dept (webmail is screwy as it was actually sent a week ago) trying to finalize my "Form 2" (plan of study).
This thing was supposed to be in my second semester of grad school. I was SUPPOSED to graduate Dec. 2008. She just informed me that the two courses I tried to transfer from IU aren't letter graded with UF so I am missing credits now -- which means I'll have to be in school for another year to get them completed while I work full-time.

I am p!ssed beyond belief right now. I KNEW I was going to get screwed somehow. My adviser is the dept. head and he is so hard to get ahold of (hence my Form 2 being so late since he needs to sign off on it) and he has already given me an incomplete for a teaching credit from last semester since he hasn't had time to review my material for it :/

I am so completely frustrated right now!!!! :*(
Move along, nothing to see here.....

Re: Officially screwed by grad school >:o

  • Ugh, that's totally frustrating!!!  I'm sorry that things are so screwed up!
  • Is there any way to appeal it or to change advisors or anything?? This blows..
  • Were you able to get any of this resolved? It sounds pretty sketch!
  • This really does stink. I don't see how you should be penalized for someone else's inability to perform their job duties. I would go above your advisor and file some kind of complaint - even dept. heads have supervisors! If he's so overwhelmed, he shouldn't have that much responsibility - and it shouldn't negatively affect you.

    Keep us posted....

  • >:0 I'm still battling with them.
The sh!tty part is, both my adviser and this person looked at my plan of study multiple times over the year and a half and never mentioned that I would need extra credits because my transfer courses don't get credits.
The Dean's office said that UF doesn't take outside credits in for lettergrades. My contact said the only option she can think of is to take "blank" credits with UF (I would have to pay for them and they don't come cheap!) and have my adviser give me the grade that I got at IU. I'm still pretty livid about this.

I knew I would get screwed - I knew it!

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • I'd kill to take have the option of blank credits and pay extra instead of retaking a math and history class that are both boring and useless to me. But such is life. I think I might try again now that there is a state wide transfer credit program coming available. I wonder who I should call to have them reconsider.
