Traveler questions...

I am going to Indy for a weekend with some friends to go to a bball game. Can you recommend some good restaurants, things to do?

Re: Traveler questions...

  • Going to a Pacer game?!?!?  If so, you might be the only one there!  J/K....but their fan numbers are dwindling.

Anyhow, do you know where you're staying?  That will help....  My fave downtown area is Mass Ave....Bazbeaus' Pizza is great.  There's several artsy shops along there if it's nice out.  Broad Ripple (northeast) also has several shops, as well as several clubs/bars.
    Have fun!

  • The indianapolis museum of art has a free admission, and is worth going to if you like art at all - the grounds are nice too.  The zoo isn't too bad, but isn't as good as some others in the midwest.  The butterflies are out at the white river gardens if you like butterfly houses.  There are plenty of war memorials downtown, and you can spend some time walking the canal.
  • St. Elmo's for great steaks and shrimp cocktails - quintessential Indy steakhouse right downtown. For something cheaper on Mass Ave(also downtown) you can find Yatz(a local cajun place) and Bazbeaux pizza. Walking along the canal downtown is always nice as long as the weather is good. Slippery Noodle is a cool local bar downtown, and for martinis/cigars head to Nicky Blaines. Have fun!
  • Not sure what kind of restaurant you are looking for so here are a couple ideas:
Mo's A Place for Steaks - very pricey, but worth every dime.
St. Elmo's- their shrimp cocktail is legendary
    Oceanaire- for fine dining seafood
The Ram- right downtown, reasonably priced and good food; simlar restaurants would be Alcatraz and the Rock Bottom Brewery
There is a Spanish Tapas restaurant called "BARcelona" which is a block and a half south of Massachusetts Ave on Delaware.
Pub fare- there is the Elbow Room and if you want great fish & chips, there is the Claddaugh.
City standards are places like the Old Spaghetti Factory (cheap food and lots of it).
If you like Greek food- the BEST in the city is in Fountain Square at Santorini's.

Honestly- I could go on forever, depends on what side of town you'll be on, but there are tons of great restaurants.

Things to do- the Children's Museum is awesome, even for adults. Depending on when you're coming, the zoo is great too. Circle Center mall is nice to shop through if you've never been here.
  • I think the girls covered most of it.. downtown around is of course Circle Center Mall, the ACTUAL circle (center of the city) is kinda of neat and there is musuem under/in it, shops around it... there is Mass. Ave. which is just north and east of downtown that is super fun with shops, lots of places to eat (Bazbeaux's is the best pizza!, Scholars Inn, etc) lots of little museums and stuff too... The canal, Indiana State Museum, Children's Musuem, Indinanapolis Museum of Art, if you like sports the NCAA Museum and Dome and new stadium... tons of stuff to do and see... but like others said you MUST go to St. Elmos!
  • Thanks ladies! I will check out St. Elmo's, and possible Slippery Noodle. I have gone to Indy(Carmel) once before - it was trip with DH's friends (we went to Bub's burgers- gross!) I dont want to take his friends suggestions this time around :) Thanks again!
