Re: Opinions on these Anchorage Restaurants?

  • Here's my opinions:

I've never been to Snow City but I've been told it's the best place for breakfast.  Gwennie's an EXCELLENT place for a hearty breakfast.

Crow's Nest for Sunday brunch is good but it's pricey.

I hate Sourdough Mining Company--BLEH!...go to the Peanut Farm instead...on the "new" side.

Kumagoro:  I haven't eaten there in years.  It used to be very good, so hopefully it hasn't changed.

Gwennie's:  Not my choice for lunch, but breakfast there is good (see above).

Simon's is AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!     For lunch OR dinner.

Orso's is also awesome for dinner, BTW.

All of the "Casual Friday" options you listed ARE VERY GOOD!!  [y]

  • That's awesome, thanks! We only have 2 1/2 days there, so as long as we are not kept inside by constant rain, I think we are good. We leave Thursday for Vancouver.....practically counting the minutes!
  • Another good place to eat is at the Bear Tooth Pub.  AWESOME food!

  • Good to know...and BTW...Love your pic and caption!
  • Snow City Cafe is wonderful, but gets very crowded.  I am in love with their stuffed french toast!

Crow's Nest is good, but expensive.  Fabulous views of the city.  My husband actually works at this hotel.

Sourdough Mining Company.  I'm not huge fan.  The food is okay, but I've had nothing but horrible service everytime I go there.  And it's a bit too touristy for my taste.

Kumagoro. I've never been, but several of my co-workers love it.

Gwennie's.  Never been there, but have heard good things about their breakfasts.

Simon and Seafort's is very good.  A lot of seafood, but even my husband (who hates seafood) likes this restaurant.  And they have some fabulous martinis on the menu.  I love their lavendar cosmos - probably my favorite drink in the world.

Moose's Tooth is really yummy, but gets crowded.  Good beer.

Glacier Brewhouse is alos really good, but gets crowded.  They brew their own beer (obviously) and my husband loves it.  He buys it drink at home too.

Sack's is okay.  The restaurant is pretty small, but the food is good.  I don't think it's anything special though.

Marx Bros. Cafe.  I've never been there, but have heard good things.  It's a small restaurant and I would definitely make reservations.

Some other restaurants to think about:
Snow Goose - it's downtown, casual, but with a great deck and, on a clear day, an awesome view of Denali (aka Mt. McKinley).
Orso - Italian food.  located downtown.  Very yummy. Maybe a little fancy.
Double Musky - it's actually in Girdwood, which is about a 40 minute drive from Anchorage, but very worth the drive.  I think a lot of locals would consider it to be their favorite restaurant.
