Hockey fans, come on in!

So let's talk about the teams we like, cool hockey stories, and upcoming playoff hockey!

I'm a huge Rangers fan, DH and I met as a result of our love of the Rangers so they have sentimental value for me too. :) We also have season tickets. We've seen the Rangers on the road in Philly, Pittsburgh, Boston, DC, Detroit, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. We've also seen them in NJ and Long Island but those don't really count as "road trips" for us. :)

And now, with last night's win and the Panthers' loss, our chances at sneaking into the playoffs have gotten better. I *hate* when my team does this to me though - as usual, they had an awesome start to the season and then just imploded. And while I know he's a major douche, I cannot deny that Avery fills a huge void on this team and the team is better with him on it.

  • Wings fan here!

We are also trying to see the Wings in all the arenas - you've visited a ton!!  We've only seen the Wings play in Columbus, St. Louis and Chicago (and of course Detroit.  In general I like the Rangers (especially when Shanny was there).  There are few teams that I really dislike, more just players that I can't stand (Sean Avery, for example).

In regards to the playoffs, I posted this in an earlier thread:

I'm excited to find out who we end up playing too in the first round.  I'm hoping for the Blues, but I also hope Nashville steps out and bumps out Anaheim - that means out of 8 Western Confernce teams ALL 5 of the Central Division would be in there.  Pretty impressive.

  • My name is jessica and I have an addiction to Penquin hockey an Steeler football!

I live in a house divided...I route for my Pens and my husband is a DIEHARD Redwing fan, we try to go see as many games as we can the last game we went to was Pens vs. Ottawa

  • Although I admit that I don't really follow the West as closely as I follow the East, the Central Division looks pretty impressive! That would be cool to see all 5 teams in that division in the playoffs.

Don't worry, even many Rangers fans dislike Avery and I *know* that every hockey fan who's not a Rangers fan (and especially all Devils fans) loathe Avery. I'd hate him too if he weren't such a good fit for the Rangers.

  • Pens fan here married to a Wings fan (so last year was interesting, ended up having to do all the laundry for 3 months).

I am so happy that with their win last night secured their playoff spot.

He was with the Wings first, maybe for a year or two?  I can't remember - but I remember thinking he was *** then and it seems his arrogance has only grown as he's bounced from team to team.

I think all teams need a good enforcer and a guy who can get in the other team's head a bit, but some of the stuff he pulls is pretty outrageous (the Brodeur incident last year for example).

  • DH and I have just recently gotten into hockey. We've been to a few Caps games this year. We don't live all that far from DC and Baltimore doesn't have a team.

I must admit, Alex Ovechkin is incredible to watch. He does some things with the puck that I just think, "that move shouldn't have worked!"

  • Devils fan here!  I can't wait for the playoffs, but the Devils really need to get their sh!t together if they want to win.   I hate Avery.

  • Ohh I have quite a few interesting stories from back when I worked for a hockey team.  I did marketing but also organized game night on ice promotions between periods.

Those boys are a breed of their own ;)  Love 'em though!

I LOVE your siggy.  My DH was mad when we saw another wedding cake that looked like the Stanley Cup.  He wanted to know why we didn't have one!

  • Another Sharks fan here.

    I agree-Preds in, Anaheim Out

LOVE your siggy pics AND you got married on my bday! :-)

So did anyone incorporate their love of hockey into their wedding?

We named our tables after the jersey #'s of our fav. players. Needless to say we were the captains :-)

  • Flyers fan here.  THey made the playoffs but they better start stepping it up.  I'm a Nittymaki fan but lately Biron has been doing ok.

DH and I went to a game a few weeks ago.  We sat in the second row but no one showed up in the seats in front of us.  So we moved down to the front row.  It was incredible.  Players were getting checked right in front of us and a fight even broke out.

  • I mainly follow college hockey (Go Gophers!) but follow the NHL a little. I don't go to many NHL games because I only want to go when the Wild are in town, and all 5 games I went to last year the Wild lost (and they lost the one game I went to in MN this year) so I'm just not going to go to help them out lol.
  • Wow, so many Sharks fans here! :)

Aside from the Stanley Cup cake in my siggy, we also had a Rangers jersey for everyone to sign instead of a traditional guestbook. I borrowed that idea from another February 2009 Knottie who was doing the same thing with a Blackhawks jersey. It came out so cool!

  • Another Rangers fan!

I think Avery is a tool of a guy in general, but I'm glad he's back. The Rangers needed a major kick in the ass, and Tortorella and Avery did it for them.

    ?

That thing was just weird. i mean even his team mates seemed to be thinking "WTF is he doing?"

Ok, this has not been the best of years for me. Stars and AVs blew chunks so hard it was not even funny. Devils seem to be having issues.

?On a plus side I am excited to see how Columbus will do in their first?appearance.?

  • :looks down at siggy:

Um, I think I'm a Red Wings fan!  Big Smile  Osgood has been my favorite player for years, and I was sad when he went to the Blues.  But he's back, and he proved how valuable he was last year in the playoffs!!

I haven't made it to any games.  But I have gone w/my friend who has season tickets to the Griffins (AHL team).  In 2007 the Red Wings practiced with the Griffins, and fans were able to meet the players after the practice.  I got Osgood and Lebda's autographs. This is the best pic I have of both of them.

  • Huge Predators fan here!  My DH and I have season tickets and love all things hockey, except the Red Wings.  We are carefully watching the standings and hoping to make the playoffs again this year.  Even if we don't make the playoffs this season, I am looking forward to watching some good hockey!

That is one of the best cakes I've ever seen!  The grooms cake I got my husband was a hockey puck with the Nashville Predators logo on it.  I never thought about The Cup.

  • Sabres fan here!  Unfortunately, they're tough to follow where I live (in the Tri-State area) - I can't remember the last time I saw them on TV other than at my mom's house back in WNY.  I wish I could get DH into it, but he spends most of the time mocking the announcer's accents.  Jerkface.
  • Blue Jackets fan here. we have partial season tickets, and often do some of the deals for other games through the season. I'm so excited to see them in the playoffs! woot! we'll be at the last game of the season at home on Saturday. Big Smile

When we saw the Wings in Columbus a few years back and had a great time (even though the Wings lost). I really liked the city and the fans.

I'm glad to see them in the playoffs too - I've always liked Nash!

Congrats on making it to the playoffs last night!  We were cheering for both teams, I was hoping for overtime so both you and the Hawks would earn some points.  Columbus must be crazy excited about the playoffs!

  • I'm an Edmonton Oilers fan, but live in the Columbus area so I like to watch/route for them when they're not playing Edmonton!

Our company has partial season tickets so I usually get to to go a BJ's game once a season. This year I went to the King's game last month, wow that was exciting in the first few periods when everyone was scoring up a storm!

OMG it's crazy! everyone is so excited! I decided to buy tickets to the last game a while ago and splurged on lower bowl seats. we'll be 10 rows back from the ice, which is the closest we've ever been (our season tickets are in the upper bowl, although we've been in the lower bowl a few times before). the energy recently has been so great anyway, I can't imagine what saturday is going to be like. Big Smile

MrsJuliD, I'm glad you had a great time while you were here! Columbus is a great city, and the fans are awesome. Nash is such a great guy, and he does so much for the city and the team.
