I would like to move to Idaho

Can someone here tell me more about it? Where is the best place/area for skiing, camping etc? Tell me everything that you can! Thanks.

Re: I would like to move to Idaho

  • I live in Hailey, which is a few miles from Sun Valley.  Great skiing, camping, fishing, hiking, etc. all around here.  It's a very tourist driven place seeing as though it's a resort town.  It's pretty expensive in Sun Valley (million+ dollar homes).  Hailey is somewhat more affordable (400+ dollar homes).  Not sure what your budget is, but it's gorgeous here.  Very small town feel.

  • I live in the Treasure Valley area (Boise/Meridian/Nampa). I am not a huge fan of skiing, but I hear Sun Valley and Bogus Basin are great for that. Camping, there are great camp sites minutes or hours away. My husband and I leave on Friday evening and go camping about 1 1/2 hours from Boise and have everything set up and ready to go by nightfall.

I moved from the Seattle area about five years ago now (I cannot believe it has been that long). I love it here and will definitely be staying here. Let me know if you need more information!

  • Hi there--It seems like I've seen your name on the Boston Nesties board--are you from Plymouth?  If not, I'm sorry--if so, this is interesting:  I moved from Idaho to Colorado, and this fall my DH and I are moving to Plymouth!  I'd say Idaho is VERY different than the East coast and my DH who is from Framingham, MA did not like the differences.  Boise is a great place on paper, but there are big cultural differences that you should try to understand and be prepared for before you decide to move there.  We would visit Idaho anytime, but would not want to move back to live.  Anyway--I jump over here from time to time, but I'm mostly on the CO board.

  • I agree that there are pretty big cultural differences from the East Coast (and any blue state).  Having grown up back east but spent summers in Boise with my dad, it was still somewhat of a shock... somedays I'm ok with it, but other days it really bothers me.
