Angels pitcher Adenhart, 22, killed in car crash
Adenhart was one of three people killed in the crash early Thursday after pitching in a loss against the Oakland Athletics.
The driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton and hit two cars, including one carrying Adenhart.
Police Lt. Craig Brower said the minivan driver fled the crash scene and was captured a short time later. The driver was arrested and booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run.
A fourth passenger was at the same hospital in critical condition.
Adenhart was the Angels' No. 3 starter, making his season debut Wednesday night. The right-hander earned a spot in the starting rotation on an injury-plagued Angels staff by impressing manager Mike Scioscia late in spring training.
He was born in Silver Springs, Md.

What a horrible shame for someone so young to die. I'm glad he got to pitch in the bigs before he died.

Thank you. I'm a long time die hard Angels fan. I watched Nick few times last year when he pitched at this level and of course watched the game last night. He was outstanding.
Such a tragedy. Hope the guy who killed him rots in hell.

I was at the last game Hancock pitched the day he died... it really breaks your heart. ?
I think they are also saying Gallo's drivers license was suspended. It brought tears to my eyes watching his agent break down during the press conference.

This is so horrible. It is a very sad story.
I also heard that the game that he pitched just before he passed was in front of his father - who rarely (or never) gets to see him play. Please correct me if I am wrong. Just another detail that I heard on the radio today, but I was not certain if it was accurate.
I definitely send my thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, teammates, and fans.

Here is a good article about how they honored him last night and how they plan on having an empty locker for him wherever they travel this season. It definitely brought tears to my eyes. The first slide of Hunter on the Angels Website is heartbreaking.

The driver allegedly had a BAC 3x the legal limit and a suspended license and prior DUI offense.Word is he is being charged with murder.
The girl who was driving the car, Courtney Stewart, was a member of my college sorority. She died at the scene. This is the second member those girls have lost to drunk driving in the past two years.
It's been great to see the community rally around this team and this fantastic player, as well as the two other young people who were killed in this senseless accident.
