My husband and I are considering a relocation to Richmond because he recently had a job offer...I worried about the job market and finding a job myself. I have a human services degree and experience with non-profits. Can anyone tell me about the Richmond area job market particularly the non-profit or human services field?
Re: Relocating to Richmond
Well I can't really speak to your field or to non-profits, but Richmond in general has been hit pretty hard lately. Circuit City was based here so that has left a lot of people without jobs. Land America was also another large employer here that has shut down as well as a semi conducter company.
From talking with people I know who are looking for jobs, it is tough because there are so many people looking and not a lot of companies hiring right now. That's not to say there are no jobs here, but like many places, there are just a lot less jobs and a lot more competition these days.
I somewhat work in the field. If you want to email me feel free to do so at amlockle@hotmail.com
While I do not know a ton about this field, I was speaking to a friend recently who lost their HR job and has been having to work part time somewhere else for the time being while they are searching.
They have actually just recently started to get some leads and calls, so it seems that it may be picking back up hopefully?
Thanks for the comments guys!
Another question - where to live!? Richmond and surrounding area is quite large. Any opinions on what areas to STAY AWAY from? I know that after we meet a realtor, we'll get more feed back but we're currently browing the home listings online and curious. Thanks again!
It depends on where your job is at and kind of what type of area you are looking for..
urban, city, rural?
Hi, I'm also moving to Richmond and was curious about apartment places on the Southern side or ares there to avoid.
After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!
