Hotel question

Hi ladies,
My husband and I are flying into Albuquerque for a conference on April 4th and I need some help!  We're flying from Kansas City, most likely on Southwest.  The conference location is Nativo Lodge, 6000 Pan American Freeway.  Mapquest tells me this is about a 12 min. drive.  Should we get a rental car, or just take a cab?  Are they readily available?

Also, which hotels do you recommend?  Does anyone know anything about this one -- Country Inn and Suites by Carlson-ABQ Airport?  We have a Country Inn near us and despite it being only one "star", it is really quite nice and defintely do-able for a one night stay.  Just wondering if the one there is the same, or if I should quit trying to be a cheapa$$ and splurge for a nicer hotel.  If that's the case, please recommend one.

Thank you so much for any info you can provide!

Re: Hotel question

  • Cabs in ABQ can be hard to come by. There is a reliable airport shuttle that is inexpensive to get you to your hotel. But if you want to get from your hotel to Nativo (or anywhere else), cabs can take forever. I've had cabs take up to an hour here. We don't have tons of cabs driving around - you always have to call one for yourself.  You could use the ABQ bus system, but it doesn't run all routes late at night.

I would go ahead and stay at Nativo if the price isn't too high. By the time you rent a car, you won't have saved that much money by staying at a cheaper place. Plus, I think Nativo offers an airport shuttle.

I don't know the hotels down near the airport that well.  What is your price point for a hotel? That makes a difference in what I would recommend.
  • The Nativo is VERY nice. I love the pool there!  My DH and I lived there for about a week and a half when we first moved here. I don't know the price of it though since my company paid for it.

The cab vs rental really depends on how long you are here and how much free time you will have. If you have a good amount of free time i would rent a car this way you can do a little sight seeing!

  • Ok I'm not sure what part of Nativo LODGE led me to believe it was not a hotel!  I guess I was just thinking it was a conference center, who knows.  I just booked a room there so I'm glad to hear it is nice.  Hopefully we can grab some sort of shuttle to/from the airport.  We won't have any extra free time so I don't see a need for a rental.  Thanks so much for your help!

  • You are VERY welcome. Make sure you look UP while at the Nativo.. the ceiling changes color! They do have Wi-Fi there. but it's not free.
