Possibly moving to VT in the next year or so...

Just kinda got blown away last night by DH. Nothing definite, but he may have an opportunity to help start up a new office for his company in Vermont.  No details at this point about which area.

But, what areas are nice? What is the cost of living like?  How hard is it to find a job?  I have no idea even where to start...

I've only been to Vermont once. We went to Lake Champlain and the Ethan Allen house (DH is very into historical buildings).  Other than that and Cabot Cheese I am clueless.

Thanks for any insight. This is all very preliminary, but I want to have something to latch my brain onto.

Re: Possibly moving to VT in the next year or so...

  • Chittenden County is the most populated part of the state and that is where you will probably find more luck finding a job.  The locals joke that living in Chittenden County is almost like living in Vermont.  I will admit, it is the only part of VT I have lived in.  :)
In general, as in everywhere around the country, the farther you are from the main city centers, the less expensive housing will be, but the farther you will have to drive for everything else.  There are a lot of beautiful towns scatered throughout the state and I am certainly glad I decided to settle here.
  • We are in the process of moving to VT.  DH already lives there and got a great job opportunity.

So far, that has been the only smooth part of our transition.  We love VT, the cost of living is lower, we love the outdoors, etc.

Someday this will all be worth it, but I can't find a job to save my life, and we can't sell or rent our condo in Mass so I have been unable to move up.  It's been 6 months.  Good luck!!  Oh and we're moving to the Bennington/Manchester area.
