poll: what do you call your IL's?

I was wrapping presents for our families over the holiday and started to write a tag for my FIL's gift from me and my DH and I wrote "for dad" because that's how he would address his father.  Then I was writing my MIL's and without thinking wrote "for [her first name]."

it got me thinking -- what do you call your IL's and how did you come to that decision.  "mom" and "dad" just don't roll off my tounge.

do you call your in-law's:
a) mom and dad
b) "jane" and "john"
c) mr. [so and so] and mrs. [so and so]

  • Sue and Steve. I think it is a little early to start with Mom and Dad for me.

  • I call them by their first names when I am speaking to them.  Although when we send a package or a card, I usually just write Mom and/or Dad on it and sign both of our names.
When we get an email from his Dad, he just signs it is "Dad" - and his emails are usually sent to their four kids and the spouses....
  • i call them by their first names and probably always will. on the gifts that i wrapped i wrote their first names.... but we also exchange gifts with the whole extended family, so its easier that way. :)

  • His dad and stepmomI call Mike and Linda. I don't call his mother anything because all the things I would like to call her are not very ladylike.

  • Always by her first name, but she is a very old fashioned Southern Bell and I had to call her Mrs.So and so until she told me it was okay to call her by her first name.  DH calls my parents by their first names too.
