Burlington area neighborhoods?

Please tell me where you live or grew up in the Burlington area and what you do and/or don't like about it.  We are staying out in Williston at a extended stay hotel, but I'm not too sure if I like it here.  I'd like to get input on what areas you think are good or not so good and why.
Thanks!

Re: Burlington area neighborhoods?

  • I lived in Essex Center through second grade, and then we moved to Williston, where I lived until I moved to North Carolina 4.5 years ago.  I can't speak as much about Williston now since it has changed quite a bit since I lived there (for the longest time we went to South Burlington to go to the grocery store b/c there wasn't one in Williston!).  I LOVED growing up there.  It was close enough to Burlington, but also was far enough away.  I went through the public schools there, and I had a great experience.  Other areas I would check out are South Burlington, Shelburne, Colchester - really any of the outskirts of Burlington.  What are you looking for?

  • If you can afford to live there it is a great up and coming town. Personally I like living out in the sticks, but driving an hour to work is nothing for me. Others might not enjoy that. Williston is close to everything you can possibly want. I know a few people that live in Brennan Woods in Williston. It seems to be a pretty big neighborhood. There seem to be lots of restrictions because of the association, but some people like having an association take care of the neighborhood. My father and StepMotherlives in South Burlington and he enjoys it there. People are really friendly. Good Luck!

  • Thanks VermontBride & Liz&Eric for your reponses.  I swear I looked all over the Burlington area, and the market and our budget being what it was, we put in an offer on a place in Essex.  It's kinda in the sticks, but not really, since we're only a few minutes to Essex Junction.  It's really difficult looking for houses being unfamiliar with the area, but rents being what they are, we figured a mortage might be the better choice.  Plus we moved with 2 pets, and I wasn't sure about finding a rental that we could afford...
  • If you think Essex is in the sticks you should see where I like. I am sure you are going to love Essex. That is a great town.
