Anyone live in Montpelier Area of Vermont?

Mu hubbie and I are considering moving from VA to the Burlington/Montpelier area and was wondering about it. My husband is interested in Graduate School at the University of Vermont has anyone heard about it - good school? bad?
Just curious about any thing you could tell me about the area as I have never been there before.
Thanks!
Whitney

Re: Anyone live in Montpelier Area of Vermont?

  • I love the Burlington area!!  I grew up in Williston, which is about 15 minutes from downtown.  As long as you don't mind the cold & snowy winters, Burlington has a lot to offer.  Church Street has lots of great restaurants, shops & bars.  The lake is right there for boating & enjoying, and there is a ~7 mile bike path along it.  It stays pretty young b/c of the colleges in the area, and has a bit to offer everyone - theater, arts, outdoor fun (skiing, hiking, etc).

As for Montpelier, I don't know as much about it.  It is definitely smaller, and I don't think there is very much going on there.  And I wouldn't want to live there if your DH is thinking about UVM - it would be a long drive!

    HTH!

  • I graduated from UVM!!!  I consider it a really good school.  I grew up in Milton, which is about 20 minutes from Burlington.  I think it's a really good area.  It may be expensive to live in Burlington, so you may want to look at the outskirts a bit...Milton, Georgia, St. Albans, Jericho, Richmond, etc.  I don't know much about Montpelier, but Burlington is definitely a great area to live!  Lots to do.  I think I'll be in VT the rest of my life....
