baby stores in charleston

hi girls,
We are moving to Charleston (bought a house in K City) this summer, and I'm due with our first child in August. I notice that there aren't any babies r' us in Charleston. Where do you go for baby stuff? Thanks!

Re: baby stores in charleston

  • There actually aren't alot of options.  We don't have a Babies R US - and our Toys R Us has a small baby section, but their selection is very limited.  For necesseties (diapers, wipes, etc) I usually go to Target.  For baby gear, I got a good deal of stuff when traveling or ordered it online.

If you are looking for baby furniture, Wells has nice furniture, and Baby Phases has a great selection (I had a good experience at Baby Phases, but I know others that haven't so it really is hit and miss).

    Good luck with the move!!!!

  • I agree with pp.  There surely isn't much.  Some of the major items I purchased online thru Target and other online places.  I checked out the baby furniture at Wells and Baby Phases and I decided on Ikea instead.  The price was soooo much cheaper and I am very happy with what we have.  We bought a crib, armoire, bookcase, toybox and changing table for around $600.

I really like the Twice as Nice consignment shops on Bigley Ave and Bridge Road.  Also, for neat little gifts and some specialty items there are a few at Bridge Road.

If you are looking for boutique clothing, there is one shop at Bridge Road.  The others that I have found are Cutie Patootie in Barboursville (Huntington area) and City Kids and another one on Route 60 in Huntington.

  • See my warning below about Baby Phases. We ended up ordering furniture from USA Baby in Charlotte and plan to drive the 4 hours each way to pick up the furniture (we have friends in Charlotte so we'll make a weekend of it). We'll register at Toys R Us and either Wal-mart or Target. A lot of Wal-mart items will have free shipping to the store by the end of May, so that opens up a lot of options. We ordered our upholstered glider and ottoman from Wells, who also has some cute baby furniture. The people at Wells are incredibly nice, and they have free delivery, etc. There is a small shop in Hurricane (about 20 minutes from Charleston) called Lullaby Loft where the employees are nice, and they have a decent selection between the in store items and items you can order through their catalogs.

  • The PPs answered your questions but I just wanted to say congrats on the house and the new baby...and welcome to the area!
