Charleston, WV

I am going to be picking DH up from the airport in a week or so from a deployment and was wondering if there were any specialty restaurants and Mexican restaurants that you giirls in Charleston could recommend?

Re: Charleston, WV

  • Personally, if you're looking for a Mexican restaurant, I would recommend La Carrieta in Kanawha City.  Excellant food and service.  Nice little place.

If you're looking for something different, there's a nice little sushi/chinese food place right by the main post office called "Atlantic Sushi" that is run by a little old man and his wife and their food is alos very good.

  • Mexican:  Rio Grande is good.  we prefer the one in Nitro (about 10 minutes from Charleston), but there is one located in downtown Charleston too..

Soho's, located in the Farmers Market in Charleston is nice.. http://www.capitolmarket.net/soho.htm

or for a list of restaurants in Charleston.. try http://www.charlestonwv.com/visiting_chas/dining.asp

  • If you have your heart set on Mexican, I would recommend Rio Grande downtown or Cozumel at Ashton Place on Corridor G.

Other recommendations for dinner would be Sohos at the Capitol Market; Blossom on Quarrier Street downtow, Ichiban (on Capital Street); or Sushi Atlantic.

  • I agree with the recommendation of Rio, though we also prefer the one in Nitro. For other specialty restaurants, you can never go wrong with Tidewater which is attached to the mall (but not a typical mall restaurant) or Fazio's for AWESOME Italian. Blossom on Quarrier Street is a casual lunch spot but a nice dinner restaurant, as well. If you want to splurge on a great meal, go for Laury's which is just across the Southside Bridge from town. Lola's is a neat little gourmet pizza place in South Hills that serves great sangria in a unique atmosphere.
