So this is probably a more important post than the previous about yoga classes
I am looking for an OB for my first pregnancy visit. Basically, I have an OB but I am not sure if I really like her very much. Nothing big, we just don't have much of a connection and I never felt like she had much time to talk to me in the past, during appointments.
I have had several recommendation from a friend of mine who is a med student and just did L&D at St. Johns. Very confused about who to pick.
I would appreciate any recs and also would like to know if anyone knows anything about the following:
Dr. Bowers - Office in Sunset Hills (my current OB, by default)
Dr. Collins - Office near St. Anthonys, female, trained at St. Johns
Dr. Durel - Office at St. Johns, male, recommended by a friend
Thanks so much!
Re: Recommendations for OB? Any L&D nurses out there?
I go to Dr. Collins and love her (Amy.Matt goes to her as well). But I would also recommend any of the other docs in the office as well (Green, Campbell, & Joyce).
What hospital are you wanting to deliver at and where do you live since that will help with the recommendations.
Also come visit stlouisbotb.com if you get a chance.
I go to Dr. McDonald in Kirkwood (delivers at MoBap and the new St. Clair's). I absolutely LOVE him. We definitely click and I definitely don't feel like just another patient to make his wallet fatter.

Thanks for the reply! I am not sure what hospital I want to deliver at - I am very ignorant when it comes to baby issues.
I live in South City, near Hampton and Chippewa. Really close to Hwy 44. And I work in South County (Crestwood).
I know that St. Johns is the best for a high risk pregnancy, but my friend the med student made me a little nervous. Not really sure that I want just any med student catching the baby! I know that docs supervise but it's kind of weird. I definitely want someplace that is going to be good and listening to me about who I want and don't want in the delivery room.
Thanks, I will look into this! Has he delivered yoru children or are you still expecting?
He delivered my son 18m ago. I know he and the other docs in his practice are accepting new patients (just watch out for Dr. Hartman, he's a hoot, but had SHORT fingers - not great for internals ).
I'm not sure what your friend said to you, but you have absolute control over who is in your room with you. Under no circumstances will a med student be delivering my child. I told my doc that I'm okay with having OB residents in the room, and checking me, but I chose my OB b/c I wanted him to deliver my baby (unless he's on vacation, he delivers all of his own patients). I'm an ER nurse and really dont' want to be someone's learning experience....yes, I realize it is hypocritical b/c I had to learn on someone, but I don't feel guilty at all!
I've heard great things from patients about Dr Collins as well. Dr Todd Glass and Renee Stein also come with good recs (I had issues with their office during my first pregnancy, but my best friend sees Glass and loves him). I've heard mixed messages about Dr Durel, but lots of people love Dr Forseter. For what it's worth, I'm delivering at St Johns, and my doc is Dr Pignotti. I love him! His office partner is Dr McLaughlin, and another friend delivered with her and loved her too. Both are at St Johns. Good luck, and congrats!
My doctor is Dr. David Super at Signature health services. He is also with Dr. Glass. My BFF and my sister also use Dr. Super and love him. He is always so happy and upbeat and really helped sooth any anxiety issues I had about this pregnancy. My first child passed away from issues with heart defects and he was so understanding about my fears and really made this pregnancy so much more enjoyable.
His office is right at gravois and 270. You can literally see the office from 270.
The office number is 314-842-4802
Thanks for more great advice! It is actually getting to the point where it is really hard to choose which doc to go with b/c they are so many good recommendations. Maybe I should pick a hospital first?
I don't live very close to St. Johns - anyone think this is an issue?
Well from my own personal experience I don't live all that close either but I went there anyways. I really liked the hospital and felt comfortable knowing they had such a good NICU just in case.
Also my sister lives in Jeffco and she still went to St. John's.
I see Dr. Green in the office with Dr. Collins. And I saw Dr. Collins several times while I was in the hospital. I adore both of them.
I had a very complicated delivery (I had severe preeclampsia and delivered 14 weeks early. My son spent those 14 weeks in the NICU at St. Johns) and would never go anywhere else.
I had planned to deliver at St. Anthony's, but when things got complicated, I was sent to St. Johns for the NICU.
Knowing what I know now, I'd never deliver anywhere w/o one again.
My Blog
My sister sees Dr. Super, he delivered her 2nd child. She raves about him.
I see Dr. Bowers and really like her. I understand what you mean about not feeling a connection, she seems to like to do what the appointment requires and move on to the next patient. But, that is just fine with me. I do a lot of book and internet research, so I never have any questions for her. She will deliver mine at St. Clair's. You should stick with her through the first few appointments. She has expressed excitement to my husband and I about our baby, she will probably grow on you.
